Follow these steps to prepare your RV for winter

By Nanci Dixon
Winter is just around the corner. Summer has quickly become a memory and fall is in full swing. It’s finally time to start thinking about how to prepare your RV for storage or for less use. An RV is like a second home, filled with all the things needed to make it home, at least for the season. If you’re not a snowbird and escaping to warmer weather for the winter, what do you do with all the stuff that has accumulated when you are putting your RV to bed for the winter?

What people take out or leave varies immensely. Some leave their RVs packed and ready (without perishables). Others remove everything that is not attached to the walls! What you take out will also vary on expected winter temperatures, or if you put it at a storage lot or easily accessible next to your house.

Follow these tips to prepare your RV for storage (or for less use).

Tour the 2024 Grand Design Momentum 22MAV toy hauler trailer

By Cheri Sicard
Today we join Matt, this time sans Andrea, from Matt’s RV Reviews, for a tour of the 2024 Grand Design Momentum 22MAV toy hauler trailer. The MAV is one of Grand Design’s entry-level RVs—in theory, meant to be more affordable. You’ll find an unusual interior layout here

Ask Dave
How long should it take to get hot water at RV faucet?

Dear Dave,
I can’t get hot water. How much water (city or fresh water tank) do you have to run before you should feel warm or hot water? Can’t get convection to program properly. This is my first travel trailer, and I am no doubt missing something, but don’t know what that is. Thank you. —DA, 2024 Winnebago Micro Minnie  Read Dave’s answer.

The Buslife Kitchen: Beautifully designed camping cookbook for small-space cooking

By Cheri Sicard
The Buslife Kitchen cookbook is definitely NOT your grandmother’s camping cookbook. It also bears no resemblance to the usual convenience-food-laden “camping recipes” we often see in print. Nope, there’s not a single can of cream of mushroom soup to be had. Instead, this book will help you make gourmet food from your rig, no matter how small your kitchen is. Continue reading about this delicious “cuisine for the modern nomad.”

Quick tip
Tilted dump station? Level up the playing field

You’d think you’ve seen everything until you get to the dump station where the pavement is tilted off and away from the dump port. How will you ever get all the stuff out of your holding tanks if it’s cowering on the opposite side of the tank? If your rig is equipped with leveling jacks, it’s time for manual deployment. Gently set down the appropriate pad(s) and lift your rig up to overcome the effects of gravity.

??  MYSTERY PRODUCT OF THE DAY  ??
Have a little guy or gal in your life? Look at these! With the holidays coming up, we think all the little tots need this! (You will agree, trust us!)

And the survey says…

We’ve polled RVtravel.com readers more than 2,500 times in recent years. Here are a few things we’ve learned about them:

• At a nice RV park, 24 percent would choose using the park’s showers over their own RV’s shower.
• 25 percent do not believe chalk should be allowed in campgrounds.
• When asked what genre of movies our readers most often watch, the highest percentage of voters, 24 percent, say they most often watch action movies. The second most popular genre was comedy, followed by drama and sci-fi or fantasy. Rom-coms were the least watched.

Recent poll: How would you describe the quality of workmanship on your RV?

Trivia

In the early days of television, the industry struggled to define its purpose. Then a small manufacturer of lipstick came along. In the year before Hazel Bishop began running TV commercials her profit was $49,257. Three years later her lipsticks earned her a one-year profit of $10,100,682. Ad agencies were stupefied that what they’d thought was a promising novelty had become the most effective advertising medium in history. And money began to flow.

Readers’ pet of the day

“Mia (Cavachon) is a great companion, high-energy walker and curious pet. A cuddly lap dog who loves to be with us wherever we go, she is a patient rider on our trips and loves to meet new people. She is very trainable, has lots of doggie friends, does some tricks and does pretty well at restaurants. We camp so we can have her with us!” —Linda Wheeler

Send us a photo of your pet with a short description. No blurry photos and please do not submit your photo more than once. Thanks!

For the “25 percent do not believe chalk should be allowed in campgrounds.” Should it be “25 percent believe chalk should not be allowed in camgrounds”?

Is chalk in a campground really an issue??? I can think of far worse things.

It’s probably better for the kids to be inside, out of nature and playing video games. NOT.

Carol, thank you for asking I wasn’t sure what they even meant by the question and was surprised they meant chalk for drawing!

General Stores: DW loves General Stores. The listed one for Iowa, per their description, isn’t even a General Store anymore. 🙄 Our favorite in Iowa is the Amana General Store in Amana. But for a real taste of history, visit the High Amana General Store built in 1857. While not nearly as large, it’s a great stop.

“Quick” tip? I wouldn’t start moving levelers if there is a line up at a dump station. And for those who have stabilizers and not levelers (there is a big difference), you can do the same thing with your leveling blocks, curved levelers, boards, etc. But please, not if somebody is waiting behind you!

Mia looks 99% identical to our Lilly….only Mia’s ear hair is longer. We got Lilly from a shelter and could only guess at her breed but always thought there was a lot (if not all) of Bichon Friese lurking in there. Wonderful little dog with all the same attributes of your Mia.
