Key features to look for when choosing an RV storage facility

By Dave Helgeson
What are the key features RVers look for in an RV storage facility? I was asked this question by a couple on Facebook looking to build an RV storage facility. Unfortunately, I butter-fingered the keys and deleted the message before I could respond. I did deem it worthy of a future article, though.

For assistance in writing this article and determining the key features of an RV storage facility, I polled the readers of the RVing Tips group on Facebook. Following is the answer to the question the couple asked and others wondering what to look for in an RV storage facility.

Ask Dave
Why does RV refrigerator trip the fuse at startup, then run fine?

Hello Dave,
I hope you can help us with an issue that just started happening. Each time we unplug the camper at home and plug it back in at the campground (and vice versa), when I push the button to start the refrigerator it blows a fuse. Nothing new has been plugged in to that circuit so we don’t think it’s overloaded. I can push the button on and off and it comes on just fine as long as the camper stays plugged in. It only happens after the camper has been unplugged. Thank you so much! —Sandy, 2015 Forest River Heritage Glen 286RLT  Read Dave’s answer.

Two good RV e-bike rack and carrier options

When it comes to transporting e-bikes with an RV, there are several options available. Two popular e-bike carrier solutions are designed specifically for RVs:
1) Hitch-Mounted Bike Racks: These racks attach to the hitch receiver on your RV and can carry multiple e-bikes. They come in various styles, including platform racks and hanging racks. Platform racks support the bikes by their wheels, while hanging racks support them by the frame. Continue reading.

Tour a rare restored 1973 Shasta motorhome

By Cheri Sicard
Have you ever stumbled upon a vintage RV and felt instantly transported to another era? That’s exactly what happened when Patrick Botticelli from New Jersey Outdoor Adventures discovered an incredibly rare 1973 Shasta motorhome on Facebook Marketplace. This wasn’t just any old RV; it was a time capsule blending a nostalgic exterior with a beautifully renovated interior. You’ll want to see this!

Cheap RVing at NM’s otherworldly City of Rocks State Park: Amazing campsites, wildlife, history, and more!

By Cheri Sicard
If you are looking for an unusual, borderline-otherworldly destination for your next RV trip, consider New Mexico’s City of Rocks State Park near the tiny town of Faywood. Rock formations like those at the City of Rocks State Park exist in only six other places in the entire world, so you are not likely to encounter anything else like this.

RANDOM RV THOUGHT: One way to see if your RV is level is to place a marble, golf ball or other round object on your dinette table or kitchen countertop. Watch which direction it rolls: That’s where your RV is the lowest. Of course, if your table is not level, then never mind.

Quick tip
Don’t put anything extra down toilets

What’s safe to put down the RV toilet so as not to create damage or dumping problems? Other than toilet paper, if you didn’t eat it or drink it first, don’t put it down there. And, by the way, never put Kleenex down the toilet. It doesn’t dissolve and can cause clogging.

That sure took a wrong turn since then.

Half the country doesn’t even need to buy Jake Tapper’s new book because half the country knew everything that is in his new book years ago. It only has informational relevance to the sheep he lied to, that watch him on CNN. In truth, it is very informative only to the people that believed his lies for 4 years.

On Tapper’s book….the Washington Post even said this out loud “someone should have told the voters about JB’s condition” ….. hahaha OMG, that is their job 😂😆 they dont seem to even know that they are journalists anymore….

I thought the same thing when I first read this, but then I started wondering if what he meant was “printing press” as in books, not newspapers.

Thomas Jefferson’s quote above may have been true 200 years ago, but in this day and age of AI you have to guard against every falsehood splattered around by journalists. I love RVtravel for being true and correct 99% of the time. Thanks,

I can remember when the Press was good and enlightening, but no more. Today it’s biased, untrustworthy, full of falsehoods, and very selective in what they print, trying to create their own versions of the truth. Most of the American public has reached a point where they can see right through their deeds and have chosen other forms of information.

I agree! There was a time, now I believe they represent the 15% and actively hate on the USA. I don’t believe anything from the press. Very sad

If Thomas Jefferson could see the press today he would just sit down and cry his eyes out. As would Walter Cronkite.

The quote I posted shows that the press may not have been so different in Jefferson’s day as we think. He both praised and lambasted the press in his writings.

We also tend to think that politics and campaigns are dirtier today, but if you look back at political campaign material from the 1800’s, we’re almost mild in comparison today.

Throughout time, politics and religion are the great dividers.

JB, given that you know you were lied to for 6, 8 or 10 years, for a FACT, do you not now feel like you should change channels? 100% of the regular FOX or NEWSMAX viewers were 100% informed for the last 6 or 8 years. Not one new revelation has been exposed in the last year or 2, for even 1 single viewer of FOX News. The fact that FOX was right about amost everything and the MSM, CNN and MSNBC missed the greatest scandal in the history of Presidential politics, received Pulitzers for the lies and were complicit in the cover up by promoting falsehoods, should that not be the wake up call?
Just sayin.

Cont. I’m not saying to watch the editorial personalities, JB. Try Shannon Bream on Sunday. Maybe Martha McAllum or Brett Baer. John Scott or Bill Hemmer. Don’t watch Hannity or Jesse Waters or Laura Ingram….. they are all opinion hosts, not journalists but the others I mentioned, quite down the middle. I recommend this for anyone feeling duped by 60 minutes, or Jake Tapper. Try it, get informed, get out of the echo chamber. If the last 6 months of news and cover ups troubles you, try something new.

Another Jefferson Quote:

“Nothing can now be believed which is seen in a newspaper. Truth itself becomes suspicious by being put into that polluted vehicle. The real extent of this state of misinformation is known only to those who are in situations to confront facts within their knowledge with the lies of the day. … I will add, that the man who never looks into a newspaper is better informed than he who reads them; inasmuch as he who knows nothing is nearer to truth than he whose mind is filled with falsehoods & errors.” -Thomas Jefferson, 1807

Jefferson believed strongly in a free and TRUTHFUL press vs a partisan press.

Many of his writings on the subject are available here:

Social Media is what has proven the MSM to be felonious. The “Press” used to be our safeguard against political lies. Now we must have a safeguard against the propaganda of the press. Social Media has provided this. Still, you must do your due diligence.

Human nature hasn’t changed all that much. Bias is a hard thing to successfully control and it was alive back then as much as it is today. John Adams, a founding father, was able to do so. Watch his TV special wherein he defended the British regulars involved in the Boston massacre and won. There was a man who could control his bias.
