These are the home remedies we swear by for bug bite itching

By Gail Marsh
Love spending time outside? You bet! Nothing better, right? Well, except for the mosquitoes! I swear these pesky insects ring their dinner bells to alert all their friends the minute I step outside the RV. I’ve learned to liberally apply insect spray before hiking, picnicking, or any other extended outdoor activity. The thing is, I am in and out of the RV several times a day. And I don’t always remember to spray so I end up with bug bites. Continue reading for Gail’s tips.

Ask Dave
Sulfur smell in city water disappeared. Could cause have been internal?

Dear Dave,
The city water smelled heavily of sulfur for almost two days after hookup. We thought it was the campground water but after approximately 48 hours, the smell disappeared. That leads me to believe it was an internal problem. Any ideas? —Della, 2011 Fleetwood South Wind  Read Dave’s answer.

RANDOM RV THOUGHT: If you meet someone in a campground (or anywhere) who is wearing a hat that suggests they were a member of the military, ask them about their service. You will make the person feel very proud, and probably make a friend.

Measuring the height of your RV

Responding to a tip on measuring the height of your RV for safety, Terry W. writes to remind us: “It should go without saying—but often it doesn’t—in the case of 5th wheels and even travel trailers, measure the height when CONNECTED to the tow vehicle.” Point well taken, Terry. Thanks!

About 5th height, as an RV transporter, the safest rule of thumb, assume all were 13’6″ and always follow truck routes.

I know the article on Arches was published a while ago, but as of 7/7/25 Arches is suspending the required timed park admission. They plan to go back to it before Labor Day weekend. Hope update helps.

I seem to remember an article that Chuck wrote about staying at a RV park in Ingram, TX. Was that park destroyed? I’ve spent a lot of time camping along the river in Kerrville and feel just devastated along with everyone else about the loss of life. Will sure miss going there as it was my favorite place and the people there were always freindly and hospitable.

HTR Hill Country, formerly By The River RV Park has the most missing of any camp. 26.
We stayed there a few years ago and you are right on the river.
Blue Oak is also destroyed.

Ellie is obviously very comfortable on that couch. Mini Dachshunds are so darn cute.

Try 4 to a bed. Yeah that was fun. Now that I have one left it feels really weird to have just one now. Going to feel even weirder when she crosses over.
