How to find RV dump stations while traveling

By Gail Marsh
Traveling in an RV offers the ultimate freedom—no hotel check-ins, restful sleep in your own bed on wheels, and the ability to cook your meals anywhere. But with that freedom comes the responsibility of managing your waste, and that’s where RV dump stations come into play. Whether you’re a seasoned RVer or just starting out, you need to know how to find RV dump stations while traveling.

Here is a list of resources for finding RV dump stations along your travels.

Ask Dave
Why does RV’s furnace run for 20 seconds, then stop?

Dear Dave,
My RV’s heater turns on for about 20 seconds and then shuts off. No heat comes out, and the heater does not turn back on. —Rich, 2023 Grand Design Imagine 22ft  Read Dave’s answer.

The top 10 scenic drives in the United States

By Cheri Sicard
It’s time for a road trip! In this video, Kyle aka the Geography King shares his top ten picks for the most scenic drives in the United States. Of course, the list is one man’s opinion, but this man regularly travels the U.S. While Kyle says this is not a countdown—these are all beautiful scenic drives—he does save his absolute favorite scenic drive for last. (And remember: Don’t feel like, or don’t like, watching a video? Cheri breaks the whole list down in article form, too. Enjoy!)

Quick tip
When traveling with pets, take along their familiar food

From Bob W. in comments on RVtravel.com: “We RV with our yellow Lab and two cats. Dog travels well, except this time, problems developed. Bad diarrhea. After a $244 vet bill, he was fine for 5 days, then it started again. We decided to head home. I drove home from Zion, 1,666 miles in 3 days. We then discovered that it was a bad bag of dog food. Have also seen this happen to cats. Moral of the story is to take a partially consumed bag of food that you know is good.” Great tip, Bob. Thanks!

The best lazy rivers in the U.S.
Get your swimsuit on, grab a pool float, and float your way down these lovely “rivers.” If you’re unfamiliar with a lazy river, this is the perfect summer to make yourself acquainted. One of these is at an RV park!

? MYSTERY PRODUCT OF THE DAY ?
What kind of deranged mind thinks of a product like this? Really? Come on! You mean people would buy this? Oh, and the description. (Ya think maybe written by a bargain-priced copywriter in China?) Here goes: “Funny spoof gift spoof tricky artifact suitable for gifts spoof tricky excellent as a funny gift for an silly office party or even as a joke to your friend or family. You can attractive more eyes in crowd. Make you quite attractive on streets and sports.”) Huh???

And the survey says…

We’ve polled RVtravel.com readers close to 5,000 times in recent years. Here are a few things we’ve learned about them:

• 31 percent say they’re terrible at telling jokes.
• 40 percent say they listen to less broadcast radio than they did 15 years ago. Only 12 percent listen to it more than they once did.
• 33 percent say they were under the age of 20 when they met their current spouse or partner.

Recent poll: If you had to rate your life as an RVer, how would you rate it?

Trivia

The three most popular (or common) birthdays in the U.S. are September 9th, 12th, and 19th. In fact, September is the most popular birth month.

Cascade Falls Aquatic Center in Ankeny, Iowa has a great lazy river that they can also change into a wavy river. You float through water falls, sprays of water, etc. Inner tubes are provided. Our grandkids loved it! It was only a 10-15 minute drive from the COE campground at Saylorville Lake in Polk City, Iowa where we were staying.

Yes Tom. I believe you’re spot on. However they didn’t mention the second most popular birth month. November. Happy Valentine’s Day

We have a golden retriever who is fed a premium large breed dog food. Unfortunately space is at a premium in most RVs and large breed dog food is seldom sold in smaller amounts. As RVing snowbirds, it’s an ongoing problem.

No matter how many beds or blankets you lay out for them, they often prefer the bare ground! Thanks for sharing.

When traveling with our schnauzers, we take their regular dog food and also give them bottled water. Since we have been doing this, we have not had any digestive issues while on the road.

Mystery Product: I already have one of those. It is usually full of hamburgers and French fries mixed with Sweet Tea.

Thank you, Emily and Diane! Very jealous of the routine you and Patrick have, Julie! Our Aussie is just past 2 and rarely is as sedate as Patrick appears. May you have many wonderful trips together for years to come! Have a great day and safe travels!
