Stupid crook – RV burglar hid under a rock

“You look like you crawled out from under a rock!” Such may have been the insult you’ve received after getting up late and missing your brush in front of the mirror. But in this case, the insult holds true in our latest “dumb crooks” installment. In this case, the dumb crook, an RV burglar, hid under a rock.

Multiple RV break-ins, but no suspect to be seen

It all played out last Thursday, August 29. Police in Lexington, Nebraska, got reports of burglaries to RVs at the Gallagher Canyon State Recreation Area. Officers from the Dawson County Sheriff’s Office responded at about 1:30 in the afternoon. They looked about, didn’t find anyone suspicious, and headed back out.

About an hour later, dispatch got another call. Someone heard glass breaking in yet another RV. Deputies hot-footed back to the recreation area. This time, they were told that someone was seen jumping into the lake at the site. Deputies called for backup. It came in the form of drones from Nebraska’s State Patrol and Game and Parks Department.

After an hour and a half, two drones spotted a man hiding out under a rock at the edge of the lake. Law enforcers quickly had 46-year-old Arvene M. Nitch in custody. More backup was called in, this time from the Eustis Fire and Rescue squad, who evaluated a presumably soaking-wet Nitch. He was taken away for booking, and a dry jail jumpsuit.

Yes, the accused RV burglar hid under a rock. Arvene Nitch was booked on charges of Theft, Possession of Burglary tools, Criminal Mischief, and Possession of a Weapon to Commit a Felony in connection with a handgun.

Probably in a sanctuary city or state where the courts just turn ’em loose or law enforcement just doesn’t bother to arrest ’em.
