Having trouble with your RV water pump? Chris from the Why Wait YouTube channel is here to help with RV water pump troubleshooting tips. Chris will take you through things to check for if your pump runs but has no pressure.
The video will show you how to disassemble the Shurflo RV water pump, the most common brand, and diagnose the most likely problem.
Be sure to watch the video as demos like this are better seen than described.
The first thing you need to do is locate and gain access to your water pump and make sure that you have water in your freshwater tank. Also, check that you have power running to the pump.
Chris then covers the possible issues that could be causing the pump to run without actually pumping water.
In the past, he had a problem with the filter leaking. He talks about this in the video and shows how to check it, and also how to make sure that no air is getting into the pump.
He takes the pump apart at about the 6-minute mark in the video. Chris’s problem ended up being a pressure regulator valve, a common problem with RV water pumps, and he shows how to fix it in the video.
The video ends on the note that it is important to use your water pump from time to time, even if you regularly connect to city water. Using the pump will keep the parts wet and keep things running smoothly. Don’t let it sit stagnant for too long without using it at least a little bit.

My RV did not come with the screen filter. A bit of grit held the check valve open.
Hint, the filter works just as well with the bowl up as down. When up the water naturally drains when winterizing. When down water will be trapped and can split the bowl unless you remove the bowl. Removing the bowl can cause the O-ring to leak. I leave my bowl oriented up.
