Crowd-Pleaser Green Bean Casserole

by Jane Farrer from Fremont, CA

Instead of crispy fried onions, this recipe tops green bean casserole with corn flakes coated in melted butter. The sauce is a little tangier than the traditional sauce. We loved the addition of cheese. It makes the sauce even creamier. Bits of bacon add a smoky flavor. The more traditional crispy fried onions can be used instead, but we really enjoyed the crunch of the crispy corn flakes. Click here for the recipe.

Brussels Sprouts with Bacon and Apple

by Susan McGreevy from Port Jeff Station, NY

If someone says they don’t like Brussels sprouts, have them try this recipe. Frying the bacon and then baking them in the bacon renderings adds a nice smoky flavor to the sprouts. After they bake, the outside layer gets crispy, and the inside is soft. Adding the apples gives a hint of sweetness, while vinegar balances out the flavors with some acidity. Topping them with crumbled bacon is a perfect finale for the side dish. Here’s the recipe.

Grandma Boone’s Corn Casserole

Need an easy side dish recipe? This corn casserole is one of the easiest ones we have made. All you need is a box of cornbread and five pantry ingredients. Once baked, the cake-like cornbread is buttery, sweet, and savory. Click here for the recipe.
