Airstream adds compact World Traveler 17RB to lightweight line

Airstream has expanded its World Traveler travel trailer lineup with the new 2027 World Traveler 17RB, a 17-foot single-axle model aimed at RVers seeking a compact trailer that can be towed by many crossovers, SUVs and light-duty pickups.

The new model follows the introduction of the 22-foot World Traveler earlier this year and carries over many of the same design concepts in a smaller package. The World Traveler series differs from Airstream’s traditional aluminum-interior trailers by adopting a minimalist, Scandinavian-inspired interior with painted aluminum walls and lightweight dual-pane acrylic windows, helping reduce weight while improving insulation.

The front of the trailer features a convertible dinette that serves as both a dining area and lounge, then converts into additional sleeping space when needed. A fixed rear bed measures 53 inches wide and is intended to sleep two adults. The galley includes fold-down and removable countertop extensions that can be deployed to increase food-preparation space.

Standard equipment

Standard equipment includes a 12-volt refrigerator with freezer, LP cooktop, 24-inch smart TV and a Truma Combi Eco Plus system that provides both cabin heat and hot water. Buyers who plan to camp without hookups can order an optional package that adds a 200-watt solar panel and a 2.5-kWh lithium battery system to extend off-grid capability.

To maximize interior living space, the heating and cooling equipment is mounted beneath the seating rather than in overhead cabinets, leaving additional room for storage.

Airstream has not yet released complete specifications, including weight ratings, tank capacities or pricing for the 17RB. Those details are expected closer to the trailer’s arrival at dealerships. By comparison, the larger 22-foot World Traveler has a gross vehicle weight rating of 4,500 pounds and a starting price of about $69,400.

Production of the World Traveler 17RB has begun for the U.S. market. Airstream said worldwide production is scheduled to begin in fall 2026, with the trailer to be sold through its global dealer network.
