Allegro Bay motorhomes recall sparked by fire

Tiffin Motorhomes, Inc. (Tiffin) is recalling certain 2022-2024 Allegro Bay motorhomes. The standard house batteries may shift position during travel, which can cause the battery terminals to contact the steel hold-down bar. Battery terminals that contact the steel hold-down bar can cause electrical arcing and increase the risk of a fire. Potentially 300 motorhomes are affected by this Allegro Bay recall.

Allegro Bay recall background

In early January 2024, a transport driver delivering a new Allegro Bay reported that the unit’s battery box had caught fire. The motorhome was disabled and towed to a service center. Tiffin engineers found the battery had shifted while in transit, and the battery hold-down bar came in contact with the battery terminals. The resulting arc caused the fire.

Remedy

In this Allegro Bay recall, dealers will install a new battery hold-down bar and angle brackets, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed April 1, 2024. Owners may contact Tiffin customer service at 1-256-356-8661. Tiffin’s number for this recall is TIF-137.

Notes

Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.nhtsa.gov.

Thank you, Russ and Tina! Wow! This sounds as though the Tiffins still hold sway over Tiffin RV, not Thor. Either way, the reaction sounds like that of a responsible, conscientious company. Kudos to Tiffin! 🙂 Perhaps their quality-control process could do with a little tweaking though. 😉
