Atlanta Motor Speedway races to help: Campgrounds open for Hurricane Milton victims

With Hurricane Milton evacuees pouring out of Florida, the question is, “Where do we go now?” That warm, Georgia hospitality is inviting, and now it’s expressed at the Atlanta Motor Speedway (AMS). The Atlanta Speedway campgrounds are open, and Hurricane Milton evacuees are welcome.

Atlanta Speedway campgrounds are open—free dry camping

The Speedway is working with the Henry County Emergency Management Agency to help those displaced by the hurricane. For its part, the Speedway is offering up dry camping free of charge. Two campgrounds are in place. The Legends Premium Campground shelters RVs and the Legends Tent Campground is open for pop-up campers and tents. Evacuees staying in these campgrounds will also have complimentary access to a nearby shower house while staying at the Speedway.

In addition to dry camping, a limited number of camping spaces with full hookups will also be available for a nominal fee of $35 per night.

“We’re here for you”

“While our thoughts and prayers continue to be with those affected by Hurricane Helene, we’re committed to helping when storms affect communities in the southeast whenever we can,” said AMS Executive Vice President and General Manager Brandon Hutchison. “We have hundreds of acres of campgrounds and opening up our facility is an easy choice to make. If you’re in Milton’s path and looking for a place to stay, we’re here for you.”

This is not the first time AMS has played host to evacuees. More than 100 campers stayed at the Speedway during Hurricane Irma in 2017. AMS hosted dozens more in 2018 and 2019 during Hurricanes Florence, Michael, and Dorian. And when Hurricane Idalia came calling, AMS opened its campgrounds for those feeling that big wind in 2023.

Directions for entering the Speedway

Storm evacuees arriving at AMS from Georgia Highway 20 and Lower Woolsey Road should enter the facility at Entrance “H”. From there, turn right onto the Speedway’s perimeter road and continue to the Legends Premium Campground for RV camping, or to the Legends Tent campground for pop-up or tent camping.

Evacuees arriving via U.S. Highway 19/41 will enter at Entrance “E” and continue to the Legends Premium Campground for RV camping or the Legends Tent campground for pop-up or tent camping.

Directions to these campgrounds can be found by clicking here.

For those needing a full hookup site, call the AMS ticket office at 770-946-4211 to reserve a space during business hours.

To get on-site assistance or directions, visit the ticket office/gift store building. For more information, contact Atlanta Motor Speedway at (770) 946-4211 or click here.
