A special breed of camp hosts is needed in New York State’s Adirondack and Catskill Parks. Now is the time to apply for the volunteer Campground Ambassador positions, which will net you a free campsite for the duration of your duties.
Camp hosts for special regions
Evidently Campground Ambassadors are specific to these New York regions. The ambassadors throw out the welcome mat for visitors to their assigned campgrounds. These serve in the 51 campgrounds and four day-use areas in the Adirondack and Catskill Forest Preserves. The camping season there runs through the summer months; some facilities remain open during fall foliage and hunting seasons.
Unlike camp hosts, the ambassadors serve two-week stints, and only during the “core camping season,” which runs July through Labor Day. In addition to welcoming campground visitors, ambassadors also help out with environmentally themed activities and programming.
Don’t drag your feet—closing soon
Applications are being taken now and must be received by February 1. Folks interested can apply or learn more about the program by clicking here to visit DEC’s website. Alternatively, call 518-457-2500 extension 1.

Might be a great way to score a campsite with just a little bit of work involved..
Thank you, Russ and Tina! 🙂 This opportunity would be enticing were it not the height of mowing season here on the farm. Y’all going to do it? 🙂
