Camping World often draws attention with oversized American flags. This time, thieves drew the attention after stealing a Camping World American flag overnight from the company’s Roseville, California, store.
When staff arrived at the Camping World store in Roseville, California, on Tuesday morning, January 21, they found the giant American flag that normally flies near Interstate 80 missing. Police say thieves took it overnight.
Taken overnight
Thieves took the flag—reported to be about 80 feet by 40 feet and valued at roughly $7,000—sometime before dawn. Police say the Camping World American flag stolen in Roseville was large enough to require multiple people to remove it. Store officials said security video shows suspects climbing a fence, cutting the cable holding the flag, and dragging it away before loading it into a pickup truck.
A flag that size is estimated to weigh between 100 and 300 pounds—hardly something one person casually tosses in the back of a truck.
Roseville police are investigating and asking anyone with information to come forward.
It’s not a permit dispute this time
Camping World has previously clashed with local governments in several communities over flagpoles and flag sizes that exceeded local rules. This incident, however, has nothing to do with permits or zoning. Police say it was a straightforward theft.
Store managers told local media they hope the flag turns up so they can raise it again.
Police say the flag’s size and weight point to a coordinated theft, not a solo job.

Good grief – what next? Funny they didn’t hook up a trailer and load the flag into it! I have a 3×5 flag on a pole in my front yard – I also have a security cam on it and the driveway. Maybe I need to add lock(s) to the nylon rope – or run it inside the pole – of course where there is a will there’s a way….. I hope they catch these fine patriotic citizens!!!!!!!
Hopefully just an ill advised college prank gone awry..
When caught, the thieves should be sentenced to clean bathrooms at a War Veterans Home. The thieving punks would learn to respect our US Flag.
No matter whether you like or dislike Camping World, private property should be off limits, especially our Flag.
Camping World uses the American flag as an advertising prop. Is a giant American flag more patriotic than one that is of more usual size?

O’er the ramparts we watch’d, were so gallantly streaming?
And the rockets’ red glare, the bombs bursting in air.
Gave proof thro’ the night that our flag was still there.
“Our Flag was still there” salutes those troops who fought (and fight) for our freedoms.
Whether or not you like CW, thank them displaying our US Flag.
