Durango & Silverton RR…not to be missed.
You’re right, J B! It will definitely make it into an article about Railroad Museums in the Western US.
As a train lover and former hobbiest, I appreciate your posting this info on RR museums. Railroads built this country and continue to keep it moving on a daily basis. I just wish there was double track for passenger and freight traffic so Amtrak could run on time to make connections. The major RR co.’s have no interest in passenger service. Thanks to the many talented enthusiasts an incredible amount of RR history has been preserved in steam and wood coaches etc.. Thanks for posting!
Steamtown National Historic Site (US National Park Service) Scranton, Pa is another place. Nearest campsites Tobyhanna State Park & Lackawanna State Park
Thanks for the addition, mrpavet. It looks like a great place to visit!
This is so awesome! I love trains and your articles, Gail.
A couple of weeks ago we rode the Durango & Silverton and renewed our vows after 20 years of marriage.
We’re also headed to the Ely Railroad museum next week in Nevada and spending a few days there. Can’t wait!
Congratulations, Tony and Peggy!💝 –Diane
Thank you, Gail, for the information! It certainly is an enticing set of destinations. Have a great day and safe travels!
