Forest River is recalling nearly 500 travel trailers because a botched factory wiring job could lead to a fire. If you have one of these 12 different models, you may notice your solar system doesn’t work. It’s a clue to watch out for in the instance of Forest River solar shorts.
Here are the affected units.
The solar panel wiring may be incorrectly wired, causing the wiring to short and overheat. Overheated wiring can melt, increasing the risk of a fire. As many as 498 RVs are affected by this recall.

Forest River solar shorts – the background
Forest River says this recall is due to a “manufacturing error.” In this case, workers weren’t consistent when wiring up solar controllers. This came to light on November 4, when the plant found inconsistencies in wiring between the solar panel and the solar controller.
The plant notified Forest River’s Office of Corporate Compliance on November 4. Compliance researched it further, and on November 8 voted for a recall.

Thank you, Russ and Tina! Gee, an award-winning manufacturer also leading ALL RV manufacturers in recalls!?! How many recalls if they weren’t award winning?!? This is almost funny, if it were not so dangerous. Oh well, just another day in RV-manufacturer-land. Have a great weekend and safe travels!
