Forest River recalls travel trailers due to improper wiring

An internal audit at a manufacturing plant indicates that up to 1,552 travel trailers may be improperly wired, which may lead to potential fires. The bad wiring job means Forest River, Inc. (Forest River) is recalling certain 2024 Aurora and Coachmen Catalina Travel Trailers. Improper routing may leave the distribution panel wire unprotected from the battery. An unprotected wire increases the risk of a fire.

Remedy

Dealers will reroute the distribution panel wire to the breaker side of the mini breaker, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed May 15, 2024. Owners may contact Forest River Customer Service at 1-574-825-4995. Forest River’s number for this recall is 203-1757.

Notes

Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.nhtsa.gov.

Additional information of interest

Forest River is taking unusual action on this recall. Here’s a lift from their report to the NHTSA. “Forest River will send suspected VIN numbers to our third party vendor that is licensed to pull data on the current owner of the vehicles (as needed) once a formal NHTSA I.D. is provided. Forest River intends on pushing the mailing out as soon as NHTSA provides any correction(s) and an Acknowledgement Letter.”

The last part about a third party vendor, seems strange. FR should notify all the owners directly and not depend on a third party to sort out a certain few.
Letters sent to ALL owners of the two 2024 models with the vin number range listed of those involved in the recall.

Again, a Forest River recall..and to give private owner information and access to an outside 3rd. party. What could go wrong with that decision ??

Thank you, Russ and Tina! 🙂 Good to know, but … at some point, isn’t an RV manufacturer going to say, “Stop me if you’ve heard this before, but … .?” 🤔😯🙁
