No, frogs have not joined a Utah police department

Do not worry that if you are caught speeding in Utah, you will be pulled over by a frog in a squad car. It’s not true. Frogs have not been enlisted in the police force.

Okay, now, an explanation about what inspired such a tall tale. It happened in Heber City this month, where the police department was caught red-faced after an AI-generated police report claimed that one of its officers had been transformed into a frog.

The Heber City Police Department began using two AI programs, Draft One and Code Four, in December to automatically draft police reports based on body-camera footage. In one case, Draft One apparently got confused.

It turned out that the body cam software and the AI report-writing software picked up on a movie that was playing in the background, which happened to be “The Princess and the Frog,” Sgt. Rick Keel told FOX 13 News. “That’s when we learned the importance of correcting these AI-generated reports.”

Keel said the department plans to keep using the AI tools, just with a little more human oversight, to make sure future reports stick to real life and not fairy tales.
