Safety and emergency preparedness

The time to prepare for emergencies is before they happen. This issue’s featured RV gear will help you do that.

3 things to do, and have, in case of emergency or injury

An emergency room sign. This article explains what you should know to get help on the road.

By Steve Blume
When I was younger, I was bulletproof; but with age comes wisdom, and with wisdom, caution. As an older walker, hiker, and biker, I know parts of me are constantly hurting, injured, or just quit working at the worst time. Accidents happen. If some rogue mountain lion finds me on that beautiful shaded trail, I want the paramedics to know my name and next of kin. In emergency situations when you might be unable to respond, especially alone in remote areas, give the responders a place to start. Check out these essential emergency items.

Are you ready for an emergency? Are you sure?

The Element fire extinguisher—unlike any other

fire extinguisher

By Tony Barthel
Unlike any fire extinguisher that you’ll find in an RV, this one does not have an expiration date. That’s because it works much differently than the fire extinguisher that came with your RV. The Element fire extinguisher works by your activating a process that chemically disrupts the oxygen that a flame needs. Because of the way the process works, it doesn’t create a mess and can work on all types of fires. Discover how this unique fire extinguisher works here.

Would you drive your RV through flood waters? Or let your children swim as lightning strikes? Of course not! But that assumes you are alerted to flood conditions or the potential for lightning in your area. When storms threaten, it’s important for campers to know about them. One essential that campers need to pack each and every time they venture out is a weather radio. Discover why this item is so important.

Cord cover protects sensitive cables and eliminates trip hazards

A cord cover for outside

By Nanci Dixon
I needed a way to cover up our expensive, sensitive Starlink cable so it didn’t get crushed. Not to mention it’s a trip hazard. Our Starlink had to be situated in such a way to get satellite service that the cable was right in our walk path between the table and RV door. Covering it with a patio rug made me cringe as everyone stepped on it. I don’t want to have to buy another one! But I found an excellent solution

An RV ceiling fanChoosing the best ceiling fan for your RV

By Gail Marsh
Outfitting your RV bedroom with a ceiling fan is a smart move, but it’s important to pick the right one for your needs. A good fan will keep the air circulating, reduce stuffiness, and complement your air conditioning system. So, how do you choose? Check out these tips along with two recommendations.

Re the Gadget Giggles— ever notice how many RV decor items with cutesy trailers have the trailer door on the wrong (for US) side? Once you start noticing, it’s surprising. Chinese or other designers that default to British style?
