Pepperoni Pizza Dogs
by Barbara Lentz from Beulah, MI
If you have children in your life, you know almost all kids love both pizza and hot dogs. This may sound different, but it’s surprisingly good and combines the best of both worlds. It’s a whole new twist on pigs in a blanket. The crescent roll dough is stuffed with a hot dog, cheese, and pepperoni. At the end of baking, it’s topped with extra sauce and cheese to make things super yummy. After the baking process, the hot dog gets a little crisp. Great for an after-school treat, weeknight meal or a game day snack. Kids can help prepare them too. Click here for the recipe.
Crescent Wrapped Cheese Hot Dogs
by Brenda-Lee Barajas from Watertown, NY
These crescent wrapped hot dogs are a tasty alternative to a plain hot dog. Kids will love these. We love the idea of slicing the hot dog and stuffing it with American cheese. It makes the inside gooey and cheesy. Brushing the crescent dough with an egg wash browns the dough when baked. You can dip these in your favorite sauce (like ketchup or mustard), chili, or even nacho cheese. Yum! Here’s the recipe.
Pigs in Egg Roll Blankets
by Linda Dalton from Coconut Creek, FL
Don’t let the combination of ingredients fool you… this twist on pigs in a blanket is super tasty! Once fried, the egg roll wrappers are crunchy. They’re stuffed with baked beans, coleslaw, Sriracha, mustard, cheddar cheese, and a hot dog. Kind of like your favorite parts of a summer barbecue wrapped in an egg roll wrapper. They made a fun appetizer or prepare a few for a small meal. Click here for the recipe.
Hot Dogs With Onion and Tomato Relish
by Catherine Cappiello Pappas from Amityville, NY
These are no ordinary hot dogs to yawn over. If you’ve ever wondered how to make a gourmet hot dog at home, this is it. The relish is so simple to make and tastes amazing. Better than anything you’d find at the store. It’s spicy, sweet, and zesty. It’s perfect served hot over the pan-grilled hot dogs and cheese. An awesome way to dress up hot dogs. Here’s the recipe.
Corn Dogs on a Stick
by Cherie Szilvagyi from Deckerville, MI
Nowadays, corn dogs are easily bought at the grocery store and are something you can make in the microwave. But, they don’t compare to the ones we could get at fairs and carnivals. This corn dog on a stick recipe is the old-fashioned way to make a corn dog. One bite and you’ll be transported back in time. The cornbread coating is almost sweet next to the salty hot dog and fries to golden perfection. Drizzle with mustard or ketchup for a country fair classic. Get the recipe here.

Never knew there were recipes for hot dogs. As a kid I was an expert. Dog on the end of a stick. Hold it over a fire until it was properly ‘burned’, then plop it into a bun with mustard and onions, and VOILA. The perfect hot dog. That “recipe” has never changed.
These hotdog recipes look so easy and simple – maybe even I could do it! (I bought Crescent bun rolls – figured I could fry them to a crisp! I just need to add the dogs!).
I wouldn’t feed modern wieners to a dog,..back in the day the corner butcher shop would make and sell wieners and lunch meat that actually had real meat in them…unlike today’s garbage with chemicals in them.
CNN today: “Mounting evidence … shows a link between an unhealthy diet high in ultraprocessed foods, red meat and processed meats such as ham, bacon, sausage, hot dogs and deli meat — as well as a lack of fresh fruits and vegetables —to early-onset colorectal cancer, according to the National Cancer Institute.”
You’re welcome, John.🤣 Have a great day. 😀 –Diane at RVtravel.com
Thank you ma’am 🙂 I loved all the foods above but I have not touched them for years. I have seen the pain and heartbreak of cancer too close. Once the addictions are broken the cravings mostly go away. Then you begin to realize, these “foods” are not food. They are edible industrial substances.
I agree, John. That’s why I don’t buy hot dogs, or really anything that’s processed, and haven’t for many years. Have a good (and healthy) night. 😀 –Diane
I bought two corn dogs when getting “Good Gas” last week, I was hungry.. I took maybe two bites out of one and Yuck!.Things sure have changed since my young years at the county Fairs. I planted them out in the yard,(thanks for the sticks) and let the critters have them.
I haven’t seen any bodies in the yard, so far.
Hi, David. Yeah, I think the last time I had a corn dog was at the Puyallup Fair about 65 years ago. I’m sure there have been a few changes since then.🫤 But cotton candy–that’s another matter entirely. When I was 12 I started working at the concession stands at Green Lake (Seattle) and then at the Woodland Park Zoo. I was really good at making BIG cotton candy for the customers. I used to say I was a professional cotton candy maker, since I got paid ($1.00/hr.) to do it.😉 Have a good night, and stay warm. 😀 –Diane
