Major winter storm closes Yosemite National Park to all visitors

With a major winter storm bearing down on the area Thursday morning, the National Park Service has closed Yosemite National Park. The closure began at midnight last night (Thursday) and will extend until at least noon on Sunday. The park service warns that the closure may be extended even longer, depending on the severity of the storm.

According to the National Weather Service, several feet of snow is forecast throughout the area. High winds will accompany the heavy snowfall, making travel extremely dangerous.

Current visitors are warned to leave the park no later than noon today (Friday, March 1). The area has seen many visitors in recent weeks, drawn by the popular February “firefall.”

Check with the National Park Service for more information on the Yosemite National Park closure.
