The 20-day search for a man who attempted to travel down the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon is over. On Friday, May 10, rangers from the Grand Canyon National Park got word a body had been spotted in the river near Six Mile camp. Thomas Robinson failed in his efforts to use a homemade raft to travel the Colorado.
Homemade raft search started in April
The search began on April 21 when Robinson’s car was found abandoned at Lees Ferry. At that time, the Park Service thought that the 58-year-old Robinson had put into the river there on a wooden raft. Accompanying him was his Welsh Corgi dog.
On Friday, word came to the Service regarding a found body. Rangers recovered the body, which has been tentatively identified as that of Thomas Robinson’s. The body was found near Six Mile Camp—just six miles downriver from where Robinson is believed to have started his brief journey. His body has been transferred to the Coconino County Medical Examiner’s Office. No word available on Robinson’s dog, nor on his homemade raft.
