Mountain Fire in California closes campgrounds

The Mountain Fire in Ventura County, California, continues to rage. As of Tuesday night, the wildfire had burned more than 20,600 acres and forced the evacuation of more than 14,000 residents. Officials report that the fire is 48% contained.

Initially sparked on November 6, 2024, the fire has been exacerbated by winds exceeding 60 mph. These strong winds contributed to the wildfire’s rapid spread and led to a “particularly dangerous situation” red flag warning for Ventura and nearby areas.

Campgrounds closed

At least 168 homes and buildings have been destroyed by the Mountain Fire. Both Ventura Ranch KOA and Lake Piru campgrounds have been affected by the blaze, with closures in effect for safety. The wildfire remains a significant challenge, as containment efforts continue under difficult weather conditions and winds are expected to pick up again.
