The dream of a fully electric RV took a hit when Chevrolet pulled its BrightDrop electric van from the market. The exit left early projects like the Coachmen RVEX and Grounded G3 without a foundation. Enter the Evotrex hybrid travel trailer, a California-based startup’s solution that blends electric convenience with the reliability of a gasoline engine.
Designed for off-grid adventures, this travel trailer can power your appliances, charge your devices, and extend your range. In short, it lets RVers roam farther without depending on campgrounds or charging stations.
Evotrex hybrid travel trailer aimed at boondockers
“Evotrex exists to transform how people experience the outdoors,” said CEO Alex Xiao. “Our products are designed so adventurers don’t have to worry about electricity or range, no matter where their travels take them, even to the most remote locations. Being off the grid shouldn’t be uncomfortable.”
The hybrid system is quieter and more efficient than traditional generators. The company even plans to use excess engine heat to help warm the cabin. This approach is aimed at modern, off-grid RVers.
The company may be aiming at younger adventurers. That would include those who want to spend several days off the beaten path with gadgets, skis, or fishing gear. “They want to bring their gadgets and other equipment on skiing, hunting, fishing, and other activities, and stay in the wild for like four or five days,” Xiao told TechCrunch. But no doubt, there’s a segment of more mature RVers who may find the new entry of interest.
You can see it in January
Evotrex recently raised $16 million in Pre-A funding, early-stage investment that helps the company build its hybrid travel trailer and get ready for launch. The funding will support engineering and product development.
Plans are to ship the first batch of Evotrex hybrid travel trailers by the end of 2026. RVers can get a first look at the trailer at CES 2026 in Las Vegas on January 6. CES 2026 is the world’s largest tech show, where companies unveil innovations like Evotrex’s hybrid travel trailer.

With its hybrid design, the Evotrex hybrid travel trailer sidesteps the infrastructure challenges that have slowed fully electric RVs, offering a practical solution for anyone dreaming of extended off-grid freedom without compromise.
Whether you’re exploring deserts, mountains, or forests, this trailer is built to let you roam farther, stay longer, and enjoy more—all powered by a combination of battery and gas.

I hope that a high quality EV
-RV option in either a towable or a drivable is available someday. Maybe this product will be the one that sets the bar for future EV RV options. I think it could be a versatile option for many folks.
As long as we never again use taxpayer dollars to subsidize an industry and especially one based on bad science, gift wrapped in wealth transfers, I am all for innovation.
I sincerely wish this builder well for a profitable and desirable product.
