Jeez, how often do you hear the word “courtship” anymore? I think we’re dating ourselves a bit…
Anyway, how long was the courtship with your current spouse or partner? And what we mean by that is, how long were you dating before you began living together (married or otherwise)? Was it just a couple of months? A year? Two years? Five years? Longer?
If you’re not dating anyone, well, here’s a funny picture to make your time visiting this page worthwhile!

Every so often I marvel at how lucky I was to meet my best friend 54 years ago. We celebrated 50 years married with a camping trip to Dawson City, YT and Denali.
I was in a military career when we met: Colorado, California, Montana, Alaska, Texas, and more! 54 years together this year, and going strong.
She said no for about two years, but kept the dating routine. Then one day, she suggested we elope.
54 years and still counting.
I was 16-17 when we met, 19 when I married the cutest 18 year old I ever saw. 55 years later and 26 years in the US Navy, she is still one of the cutest ladies I ever saw.
Met my wife the day before I went overseas. Got married 3 years later. Lots of letters. Celebrating our 50th anniversary this year.
My wife and I met each other in the 5th grade. We stayed together all the grades and years that followed. We married about 2 years out of high school. We are celebrating our 50th anniversary this year. Overall we have shared in each other’s life some 60 years and I would not have wanted it any different. Life is wonderful when you find the perfect person to share it with. Now enjoying our golden years traveling in our MH. Happy travels!
Both went through our divorces. I at the time running the military post office my wife was a delivery driver for UPS. We started dating and married.
Six years to the day. When we decided to get married we planned the ceremony to within one hour of the day and time we met. Also, it was on April First. People sometimes think we’re kidding about the date, but we have many witnesses to the wedding. That was 18 years ago, so I’m guessing it’s working out just fine.
We got married on April 1st too! Must be a lucky date as we just celebrated our 57th year together.
I met my partner 9yrs ago in a grief group after both our spouses died. We were together for a year in group and then part of a social group several years after. Our friendship evolved after I “volunteered” to travel with him in his TT when he retired. Though he wasn’t ready, we persevered and have found love and our 2nd Chapter in our late 60s. We are grateful every day and enjoy traveling in our Class C.
We met, got pregnant, and married in a week. That was 45 years ago.
We met in senior year of high school. Dated for two years. When I graduated Tech School I got a job near Cleveland OH. I drove back every weekend from Cleveland to Pittsburgh for about a year. Enough of that! In January we decided to get married in April. That was 54 years ago.
Two years due to two tours in Viet Nam, 1968 to 1970. And we’re still together.
Why was “Not long enough” an option? lol
Yep; Agree!! I must have been “Dizzy”!! Because; I did not know I was so Dumb at the short time “We Romanced” !!
I moved in with her and her 2 girls (we were both divorced) within a month. Got married in less than a year and I became an instant dad and we had 2 more girls a few years later. We now have 8 grands, and 5 great-grands all in 36+ years.
Still love the lady who “disliked” me before our first date but soon realized not all men are *%#@$ jerks! ❤
Thank you, RV Travel! 🙂 DW and I began dating in March 1988. We got engaged in October 1988. Our wedding was in July 1989. Thanks again and safe travels! 🙂
The poll itself never appeared. The “courtship” itself was very brief (days), but we had been friends for almost forty years.
Good morning, Gene. I’m sorry the poll didn’t appear for you. There have been almost 800 people who “voted” in it, so it must be something on your device. If it continues to happen, here’s an explanation from one of our IT folks awhile ago: “Sometimes script blockers and ad blockers interfere with our polls since they are from a 3rd party site. If you have one of these, try and turn it off and see if that fixes the issue.” I hope that works. Have a great day! 😀 –Diane at RVtravel.com
Had the same problem, just hit the refresh Gene and let the page reload. The poll wouldn’t load on the initial page loading on either Chrome nor Safari.
I find the word courtship somewhere ambiguous. Is courtship from the first date until engaged, then 6 weeks, but if from first date until married, then just under 18 months.
We dated off and on for about 2 years – off and on because she lived in Winnipeg and I in Fargo, ND – so it was weekend driving when time permitted or she would fly – until NWA quit the route, or she rode the blue dog up and down the road! We were married on my birthday and her dad’s birthday – that was 57 years ago. On the week of our 50th anniversary,we went first class air to Fairbanks, Ak and celebrated the anniversary in Seward! Been a great and also a rough road all those years…. lost both our son and daughter (adults), lost our home to fire; but alas, or granddaughter has blessed us with 4 great grand kids! Now my wife is in the final stages of Emphysema – so goes life.
We have some much more to be joyful about than to be sad about. Our courtship is such a wonderful, joyful memory. Four years until we married. I knew she was the one for me and she still is after 61+ years.
Other than picking a range, it’s really hard to say. We started hanging out during our off hours/days (we worked & lived in a state park as seasonals). By the time we realized we were more than buddies, it was too late for all the dating “bs”; we knew each other too well.
Three years to the day. Met on June 8th, 1970, got married on June 8th, 1973.
We began as friends. By the time we knew it was more than that, educational goals caused us to have a long-distance courtship. We never lived/slept together before marriage and have had 49+ great years together. We’ve been through cancer and other crises, raised 3 kids and are involved with our grandchildren. God has been so faithful to us. We are blessed.
My ex introduced us on Veterans Day 1987 (asking me to install a heater in my future bride’s house). Six months later, we married and three days after that I left for my new duty station in Naples, Italy. She joined me two months later. We’ve been married almost 36 years.
Looong story, but she started chasing me 64 years ago and caught me after 9 years. Now 55 years married.
We met on a blind date, didn’t hold hands until we were engaged, (8 months later) and didn’t kiss until the pastor said, “you may now kiss your bride”. (A year after we met.) But the part most people can’t believe is that my husband did not say “I love you” until the night before we were married. It will be 20 years this August!
We met when his fiancee (college best friends) brought him to the 24/7 house party at college commune my abusive ex & I lived in. The girls were doing all the work to keep it afloat. Our mutual friend ran away from us a few months later & he couldn’t find her for months. We became best friends over our mutual loss. I kissed him under the mistletoe Dec 31 1970 at midnight. Later he described it to me as “like kissing an electrical outlet”. He suddenly realized we’d been dating for months. Couldn’t marry for about 10 years but we have weathered graduate schools, children’s stormy adolescence, uncertain professional prospects. Still best friends. I never felt cherished before him.
Started dating in July, got married in Dec. Second time around for both of us. 38 years & counting.
