Fairs can be so much fun! Sure, they can be hot and crowded, but aren’t funnel cakes and hot dogs and baby goats and cows worth it? We think so! We think everyone should let out their inner child and go to a fair at least once a year, if they’re physically able.

Yes, absolutely I’m going! My garden club participates! The flower barn is lovely. We love watching people compete on horses, especially the kids. One of the funniest things we saw was the year a racoon got into the baked goods barn. His first place winner was not the same as the judges, lol. The bunnies, watching kids on rides, the people. There’s just so much to take in. The sounds, will take you back. I always have to search for my annual Burch Beer (instantly takes me back to age 5)
I did when I was young; we took the kids when they were young too. Not anymore as we close in on the 80’s.
Went to the New York State Fair yesterday. We got in to park easily but we didn’t get there until 1pm and we had to park quite a distance from the entrance gate. A lot of walking but we found some great food at a reasonable price. Lots to see, good music, large crowd but spread out so it was comfortable. People watching was very interesting.
We have gone to county fairs many years. This year had competing demands on our time.
I should point out rides have not been our main attraction since the kids were young. 4H and FFA programs build work ethics through competitions and these youngsters are proud to show their results. Some of the best support is simply showing up at the fair.
Attended the Oregon state fair yesterday. DW had her once yearly corn dog!
We were involved in our Idaho fairs for years with kids in 4H and FFA. In addition, my hubby was an ag. teacher and heavily involved in the FFA part of the fairs. After all of that, we’d had our fill.
We had planned to go to the county fair but temperatures were over 100 those days. Maybe next year.

Consequently, I learned that the Tennessee State Fair just concluded and the Hamilton County, Tennessee Fair is in November. Given that we’d have to drive many miles upriver to a bridge over the Tennessee River and then many miles downriver after crossing to even reach the fair site while boisterous dog #3 is crated, it isn’t likely that we’ll attend. I still have a vague memory of being at our county fair a few days before beginning school in the late summer of 1963, but haven’t been since. We quit attending fairs in our area because they have lost their agricultural connection, which was the major reason for their existence, in our view. If we are in a rural area when a fair is on, we still enjoy them.
We have found this to be so true. Last year attended Texas State Fair with my sister in law. We had a blast primarily because no kids no husbands and we took the train in so no designated driver needed. Really a perfect girls night out but not like the fairs of our Indiana childhood. Now if we happen to be in a rural area or state we will give it a shot
7 county or local ag fairs this summer. DH and I are both licensed fair judges and judge a variety of youth and adult projects. We also volunteer at 2 nearby county fairs. Fair season in Wisconsin is nearly done for 2024, only 8 county fairs left. We’ve been attending county fairs since 1960 as 4-H’ers, 4-H parents, 4-H grandparents, volunteers etc. Only missed a few years in the 70’s, and then Covid.

Have gone to Mid-West county fairs all of my youth. My wife and her parents worked the Fla State Fair and Cracker Country for years. Then more years having her craft booth. One year we both got ribbons in our individual crafts that we presented at the county Strawberry Festival. Would still like to go but walking is no longer my forte.
