We’ve asked in the past if you’ve ever spent time RVing outside of North America, and if you haven’t, which country you’d most like to explore. This time, however, we want to take a broader approach to travel. It’s not just about RVing, but traveling in general. Many RVers also enjoy exploring the world in various ways, and we’re curious: Have you ventured outside of North America (the U.S., Canada, or Mexico) in the last 20 years?
If you have, how many times have you traveled beyond these three countries? Was it a one-time adventure, or have you been fortunate enough to make international trips more than once?
We’d love to hear about the places you’ve visited, the experiences that stood out, and whether or not any of those destinations would be on your list for future RV travel.
If you haven’t had the chance to travel abroad in the last couple of decades, no worries! We’d still like to know which country or countries are at the top of your travel bucket list. Whether it’s the scenic beauty of New Zealand, the cultural richness of Europe, or the adventure-filled landscapes of South America, let us know where you’d most like to go.
As always, thank you for voting!

In the last 20 years we have traveled to Belize, Peru, Bali, Cambodia, Thailand, Vietnam, Okinawa, and rented a RV in Johannesburg, South Africa to tour SA, Botswana and a day trip to Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe. We hired a guide to tour Uganda for three weeks. There is nothing better than the feeling when we return to US soil, but we love seeing and learning about the world. We have also taken several Caribbean cruises, but we don’t count them, because you don’t find out much about the country by going ashore for part of a day.
I love this quote as it is so, so, sooooo true!
“Travel is fatal to prejudice.” — Mark Twain
Never have. And the way the problems in the world are lately, I have no inclination to do so. It’s bad enough on our own turf.
We totally agree. And for future surveys- no, we don’t have a passport.
Flight from Durham, NC to Chicago, IL and on to Montreal Canada. Drove south to Plattsburg, NY then back to Montreal and back to Durham. That was just 20 years ago. We visit Upstate NY every year and drive up to the 1000 islands and places like Champlain, Ogdensburg, & Alexandria Bay – just south of the Canadian border but never into Canada.
Just got back from a food tour in Italy, bravissimo! So much out there to see and experience before this body expires. Right on, Mark Twain!
Living in Florida before becoming full timers, cruising was a great getaway. With 5 ports we would call last minute getting great deals and upgrades but usually didn’t even get off the ships
I was in the Navy for 22 years and have been around the world a few times. There’s still no place like the good old U.S.A.
Dream!!!
Never leaving the US – ever. Especially nowadays.
Too bad, you’d be a better person for it!
Hi, Paul. FYI, Tommy doesn’t need to leave the U.S. to be a better person — he’s already one of the best. Just sayin’. Have a great day. 😀 –Diane at RVtravel.com
Well, this “better person” left the US for 13 months and one day in 1967 and then decided that I too wish to stay in the good ol’ USA from then on. I stay behind to make sure that the US is still here for travelers when they return.
And I agree it’s wars popping up every week and it’s really dangerous in the Home Country.
Family & friends have been the biggest reason to leave North America. We have visited much (but certainly not all) of western Europe [mostly Germany] and a few South American counties. I truly think everyone should spend at least a couple weeks outside their home country. It will give you a better perspective of not just another country, but of your own country.
How sad there is so much fear of the world outside of our borders. I’ve traveled in over 100 countries by bus, train, motorcycle, on foot, and even in a ox cart! Everywhere there were smiles, warm welcomes, beautiful scenery, generosity, hospitality and a willingness to help when asked, language barrier be damned. There are kind people everywhere. Of course, petty theft, but my experience is it’s less often than here. My memories are full of beautiful scenery, but most of all those beautiful moments with people.
When friends ask which country i visited was most beautiful, I tell them my own. When I return I realize the one thing I miss most is our diversity and rainbow of cultures.
We have been very fortunate to be able to travel extensively. In past 20 years; England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, France, Italy, Tanzania, Ecuador, The Netherlands, Belgium. These were for pleasure, lots more for business and the U.S. Navy. Again, we realize that we have been lucky to see so much of the world.
We have camped in Canada, Nova Scotia and Prince Edwards Island. We have also taken a couple of cruises as far as the Panama Canal.
But the best trip so far has been our ten week camping trip throughout the Rockies and places in between. Still hope to get out to the west coast on a camping trip but we are still working out those details.
Our last trip was to Amsterdam and taking a river cruise around the Netherlands. Especially enjoyed the Rijks and Van Gogh museum as well as the Anne Frank House. Been to many places out of the USA and enjoyed them, but the best part of those trips was coming home to the good old USA.
We love touring the US in our motorhome, but there is nothing like “vacationing” outside the US to get away…and to get another view of our world!
Thank you, RV Travel! 🙂 Have a great day and safe travels! 🙂
We were lucky enough to travel to Paris, Barcelona and Amsterdam 2 years ago. It was so good we are going to Italy and Greece next summer.
We used to travel back and forth from Wyoming to Alaska in the 1980’s with little to no problems at the borders…now…forget it.
Yes, Jamaica, France, Switzerland, Germany, England, Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Japan, Venezuela.
