What kind of coffee maker do you use most often?

For coffee drinkers, we know that coffee isn’t just a morning routine—it’s a ritual that brings comfort and energy to the day. But when you’re living on the road, the type of coffee maker you use can be as personal as your choice of campsite.

Some RVers swear by the simplicity of a drip coffee maker. Easy to use and capable of brewing multiple cups at once, it’s a reliable option for those with hookups or a generator. Others lean toward single-serve machines, like a Keurig, for their convenience and minimal cleanup. When counter space is limited, the compact design of these machines is a lifesaver.

For the boondockers and off-grid explorers, a French press or pour-over system is often the go-to. These manual methods require no electricity, just hot water, maybe brought to a boil over a camp stove outside, and deliver a rich, flavorful brew. A Moka pot is another favorite, especially among espresso lovers craving that strong, bold kick without the need for a full-blown espresso machine. Similarly, for those who like a touch of tradition, a percolator bubbling away on a campfire can turn coffee-making into an experience.

The beauty of RV life is its adaptability—whether you’re in a fifth wheel with a full kitchen or a compact camper van, there’s a coffee maker that fits your lifestyle.

We’re admittedly, coffee snobs with the thought that life is too short for crappy coffee. – Saeco Xelsis Deluxe. We move it back and forth from our S&B.

LOL. I drink Folgers regular blend from a $20 Mr. Coffee drip purchased at Walmart. It’s so cheap, even the mice won’t mess with it….. Ha!

Same here. As long as it makes hot, black coffee. That’s all we need.

I have used an AeroPress for about 15 years. I drink one cup in the morning, and can make it pretty strong if I need to. It is perfect for boon-docking. All I need is boiling water.

Automatic drip when hooked up. Percolator when boondocking. Really should use the percolator type all the time, it makes the best coffee!

We have been using a Senseo single cup with a pod since 2007. We make our own pods using the special filters and pod maker with our favorite coffee beans.

Home it’s the Keurig but camping it’s the percolator. The smell of fresh brewing coffee through the camper is oh so good and the coffee is the best.

Single serve K-cup style. Only one who drinks coffee. Black, no sugar, no cream, and no flavors.

Wife likes her Chulux in the Motor Home and her Cusinart at home. As she is the only one drinking that vial brew, I will indulge her habit.

We’re not coffee snobs at all, though I did vote for the Keurig type. But if you want really HOT and flavorful coffee, it needs to be percolated.

We use our Mr. Coffee drip for making tea using our favorite loose leaf tea. We aren’t coffee drinkers, but don’t make us go without our morning tea.

We use a Moccamaster KGBT drip coffee maker.

I drank a lot of coffee in my decades as an ER doctor. I finally started roasting my own to save my stomach. My wife now drinks her coffee black instead of coffee au lait and I have to keep my mother in law supplied 😉

I bring my roaster during the months we snowbird in AZ. I roasted 8 kg yesterday. Nothing like roasting in the desert air!

Even with the cost of the roaster factored in, a pot of excellent coffee costs me about $2.

We use a K-Cup style coffee maker. It’s small and easy to use. I have an insert that we can swap out to use ground coffee too.

I’ve tried them all. I prefer drip, followed by percolator. I love cowboy coffee (boiled grounds) but doing it right takes more attention than putting in water, filter, grounds and hitting the button.

Thank you, RV Travel! I use a Mr. Coffee in both the house and RV. As in a Joe Dimaggio coffee maker. Have a great week and safe travels!

I marked drip, but that is only with electricity. We also have on board Melitta pour over, Aeropress, CafeJo. I gave up on the French press because the spot filter always plugged up before I got all the coffee & I still found some grounds in the cup. We WILL have our coffee. In a snowmobile trip gone a bit wetting I used melted snow in beer cans with the toss cut off, paper towels for a filter. Our overnight place has only one saucepan & a wood stove. One way or another we have our morning coffee.

At home we use a drip coffee maker but when on the road or the power goes out at home we use an old fashioned percolator.

I bought a Ninja coffee maker at Costco that is a drip type and has an attachment included to use K-pods. Works better than some of the older basic store brand units.

I’m with you grandpa. We like them so much that we bought enough spares to last a lifetime. Because companies chase trends and we worried they would stop making them.

Love my single serve keurig. I have my coffee and she gets hot chocolate. Make what you want/ need. I have an owens corning coffee maker to use in the mh on the stove burner when we don’t have power and the generator would disturb others.

Mikal

At home we have Keurig that does drip into a coffee pot as well as a single serve option. In the motorhome we use a cheap drip maker when set up and a generic cheap single serve when on the road. We’d have another multi-function Keurig in the MH, but those are rather large/bulky and don’t fit well in the kitchen cupboards while the ones we have both fit perfectly in a deep skinny space we have.

Since we aren’t coffee drinkers we need another option to choose from… 🤪

I drink coffee, my wife drinks tea. So in the RV I use a hybrid single serve drip or K-cup coffee machine. Takes up very little space on the counter.

We used a Mr. Coffee in the fifth wheel when we had an electrical hookup and a Melitta pour-through when dry camping. But now, in our Class C, we have solar, Li batteries, and an inverter, so we use a single-serve coffee maker because we always have 110vac power available, even when boondocking! Anyone need a Mr. Coffee or a Melitta?

Replaced the French press with the pour over using a filter. So much easier to clean and pour right into either the insulated steel pot or a insulated steel cup and so tasty.

Thanks for this discussion. I’ve tried most ways of making coffee–french press, stove top percolator, etc. We’ve been using Keurigs both in the motor home and at home. I’d never heard of the Aeropress and will probably give it a try because I’m tired of the little plastic cups going to the land fill.

Plain old drip coffee maker. Parents had a Keurig and it makes terrible coffee, even with bottled water.

I use a drip coffee maker at home. In the MH I use an electric percolator as it takes up less space and also makes best coffee. I also put remaining coffee in a thermos bottle – 8 cups will last me about 2 days. A brief :30 sec microwave warm up is sometimes needed on day 2.

As for Coffee Makers. My Husband is Scottish and I am Irish !!! We DO NOT drink Coffee ever. We are in our 70’s and cannot count on ‘one hand’ how many coffees we have been served coffee by mistake. ** Bring on the Tea !!! COFFEE is YUCK to us; we don’t even know how to make our friends & family a good cup of coffee.

I Love my coffee and feel sorry for you non-coffee drinkers that are missing out on one of the finer things in life. As for brewing method, I use a drip machine at home but when camping the only thing I take with me is my old stainless steel percolator which makes the BEST coffee on the camp stove or the gas burner in the trailer.

We have a Keurig Duo. On one side, it’s a single serve and on the other side it makes 12 cups of coffee. So, on travel days or a mid afternoon pick me up, it’s the single server side and ii the mornings just hanging out at the campsite, it’s a full pot! We are in a 5th wheel, so we have a little more space for a larger coffee maker.

KellyR

Wife makes her coffee in a Keurig type machine. I used to think I was a coffee connoisseur but have now lost the taste, so I make instant coffee out in my shop. Black coffee is black coffee…unless it is Cuban Coffee and then it is WOW! One cup equals 10 and you can be up for days.

French press 95% of the time. Otherwise, we have a Technivorm Moccamaster 79112 KBT so the half can make coffee because “that thing is too complicated” meaning my French press. LOL
