Many of us forget the magic of seeing a movie on the big screen until we’re seated in that movie theater chair with popcorn in hand. It really is magic.
Do you watch movies? If so, do you mostly watch them at home or in your RV, or do you go to the movie theater? (Or, perhaps if you own the 2024 Salem FSX 30VCVIEW you’ll have your own movie theater in your RV!)
If you do go to a theater, when was the last time you went? What did you see? After you respond, please leave a comment and tell us what you saw.
It’s always fun seeing a movie in a different town or city, too, especially if it’s a small-town theater. We always love that about traveling by RV. Nothing to do tonight? Head to the local diner and then see a movie. You’ll be glad you did!
If you haven’t been out to see a movie in a while, we suggest you go and find that magic once again.

I saw Mike Rowe’s movie, “Something To Stand For” over the summer. Before that it was The Lord Of The Rings trilogy. Too many people talking on their cell phones, kids playing and not watching and there’s not much worth watching anyway.
I remember taking my youngest to the theater to see an animated 3D movie in the very early 2000s. That’s the last time, it was after that rentals from Blockbuster or Hollywood Video. And it’s just pull one off streaming and be done.
I went by myself to see Wicked when it came out. Absolutely loved it!!
Saw Wicked also. Very good!
“The Beekeeper”
Tora Tora Tora at the Philadelphia Naval Station. Not much since then has made me inclined to watch a movie in a theater. The prices are too high and the quality of the movies are junk. When I see one of the hot movies on DVD or TV, I thank my self for not paying a fortune to see garbage.
Excellent movie!
Saw a movie in December (Wicked). Prior to that, last time was more than three years.
Once a year treat, New Years Eve. Tradition. This year, the 8 or 10 previews of “coming attractions” were horrible. They amp the volume up on them. The cinematography is flash, flash, flash. Harrison Ford in one. Can’t name a single one nor were they of interest. Super heros, fantasy or cartoons. Nope, not for $13.
The last movie we saw in the theater was 2017’s Loving Vincent, figuring the artwork would be great on the screen. (It was.)
These days, we’re in a movie theater weekly, it’s a temporary location for our not quite two year old church. (We’ll move when the renovations on a used building are finished.) The sound is so loud that I couldn’t handle an actual movie. The walls sometimes rumble with movies from other theaters during our service.
Seeing the posters for upcoming movies is interesting, but nothing really attracts me. Boys in the Boat left theaters before my husband got to see it.
Top Gun: Maverick was our last trip to a theatre.
Between the filthy floors, people…not kust kids, talking out loud and using their phones during the movie, the high cost of food and drink, the declining quality of films and the increasing cost of tickets vs the comfort of our home, the better variety of food and drink and the ability to pause the movie for food and other reasons there is no reason to continue going out to see a movie. We subscribe to Comcast and most of the major streaming services and it seems that all or nearly all of Hollywood releases end up on the small screen within a few weeks of their theatrical release.
Pretty much I just wait until they get on line.
Saw Wicked. But we go fairly regularly to see shows that interest us. We like our theater with reclining heated seats. We tend to go to matinee shows which are less crowded.
At one time I went to the movies at least once a week. Over time I noticed people in the audience would talk to each other like they were living rooms without concern for anyone around them. Then a very strange thing started happening when people would laugh at violence and at things that weren’t meant to be a funny. Not to mention people using their cell phones during the movie. Eventually enough became enough.
Top Gun Maverick, opening week. Worth the exorbitant ticket cost to see it on the big screen.
Everything else, Netflix and Prime!
Last movie was Top Gun Maverick. When they make decent movies that are not action heroes, psycho thrillers,or come up with a new theme instead of remakes I would love to go! Next planned movie is Downton Abbey.
Went to see a political movie a few months ago. Made me realize why I never go to the movies. Too loud, Disney garbage, uncomfortable seats, cell phones, 20 minutes of commercials before the movie and $10 popcorn.
I have my own home theater so no need to go out. 🙂
I don’t remember, probably in the 1970s. Not worth driving 35 miles for high prices and people coughing and sneezing. I have lots of DVDs.
Movie volume is much too loud in theaters…
And too high
Wicked on opening weekend! Definitely worth it
Our last movie in a theater was “Polar Express”.
Do drive-ins count? We still have 2 Drive-in theaters operating within 5 miles from us. They’re both fairly busy during the summer. I’d have to remove my hearing aids to see one in a regular theater.
101 Dalmatians in 1996 in New York.
Thank you, RV Travel! When single (~40 years ago and earlier), going to a movie was a date. Since marriage, we don’t have dates often (< annually) and they never include a movie. Have a great day and safe travels! 🙂
