Okay, folks, let’s talk laundry. Not exactly the most thrilling topic, but we’re curious (we’re curious about everything).
How often do you do laundry? We know it can vary—some weeks demand an extra load or two, and your laundry habits might look different at home than they do on the road in your RV. But for this poll, just answer as best as you can, generally speaking.
Do you stick to a regular schedule, or do you wait until you’re down to your last clean pair of socks? Maybe you try to plan laundry days around weather, location, or access to a decent laundromat.
Some RVers swear by campground laundry rooms, while others avoid them at all costs and wait until they hit a trusted spot in town. Then there are the truly minimalist travelers who get by with hand-washing and a clothesline.
There’s no one-size-fits-all when it comes to laundry on the road and we know everyone does it differently.
Feel free to leave a comment and share your routine (or lack of one). Thanks for participating!
Oh, and make sure you vote in this poll too: Do you/would you remove unattended clothes from washer/dryer?

How about “When the laundry hamper gets full.”
Which for the two of us is “about once a week”.
That’s the best indicator!
Normally fill the Laundry Hamper every two weeks and when on the road, we bring enough cloths for three weeks though we are seldom gone more than 15 days. Lawn also needs to be butchered every two-three weeks so another reason not to be on the road for more than three weeks.
We hired out lawn care in spring/summer/fall and snow removal in winter.
While not being permanent campers, our laundry is done when we get home. We camp for 2 weeks and home for 2 weeks, from May 1st to October 31st.
The only time we’re not doing laundry is when we’re camping.
When I can’t find any more cleanest dirty shirts.
Once a week when we are in the rig. At home in summer it’s multiple times a week. We get pretty filthy when weeding the garden etc. Clothes worn in the garden, woods etc. must be laundered before wearing again. We live in tick country so laundering all clothing between wearings is part of our tick/lyme disease prevention. Towels, dish cloths etc. need laundering more frequently in hot humid summer.
As a friend once said “a pair of underwear should last four days, front, back, inside, outside”.
might work.
Least favorite chore for me as a full timer!! We operate on the theory that we change people instead of clothes. We are clean people, but wear our clothes until they are dirty and have 3 weeks of underwear.
I do laundry as needed. When traveling, we tend to visit friends/family often enough that I can skip laundromats. Not that we plan trips with that in mind, but a large part of our travel is to connect with people we know and love.
I said once a week but that is only when traveling and we visit a laundry mat. At home it is at least every other day.
I don’t ever do laundry. The DW complained the one time I just threw everything in to wash at the same time. Seemed ok to me seeing how much it saved on detergent, water and energy. Little did I know that my action would bring up such a storm.
Me – never. I’m haven’t been competent since I ceased being a bachelor. DW, seems like every other day. We have a washer and dryer in this motorhome, before that it was maybe once a week in the campground or town laundromat or save it for home.
At home, I do laundry more than once a week. One handy thing we have is a three section laundry sorter, so when I have a full load in a section, I wash it as soon as I can. For camping, we seldom go for longer than just over 2 weeks. We try to take enough clothing and towels, etc. so we don’t have to do laundry, although we do if necessary. That does mean doing multiple back-to-back loads of wash once we’re home.
Some useful information…all the Colorado and Louisiana state parks we have visited during our 30 plus years of travel have had laundry facilities. Very clean, reasonable price, and fits right in with a fun packed week or so at the park. I cant say all the parks in these 2 state have laundry facilities. I would also like to know are there other state park campgrounds with laundries
At home, 4-5 days a week. When camping, seldom – we’re usually gone only 5-6 days, so I just haul dirty clothes back home.
Once a week while on the road (usually Sunday), every other weekend at home. We can’t carry enough clothes with us to do laundry every other week on the road.
Thank you for the question, RV Travel! When home, probably every 3 or 4 days. So, twice one week and probably three times the following week. When traveling, as often as I have a load of dirty clothes, if we have full utilities. That works out to every 3 or 4 days. The longer between doing laundry, the more loads I do once we have full utilities. Have a great week and safe travels!
Single older guy, I go once a month or sooner if needed.
