In need of a smile today? You’re in luck because the 2025 Nikon Comedy Wildlife Awards are here to deliver.
This annual contest showcases animals caught in delightfully awkward, expressive, or just plain goofy poses. These are the kind of photos that make you honk with laughter and cause your travel buddy to want to see what’s so funny!
A little history
The Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards started in 2015. Wildlife photographers Paul Joynson-Hicks and Tom Sullam wanted a way to celebrate the lighter side of nature while drawing attention to conservation. The effort has grown into a globally followed competition.
Winners
This year’s overall winners will be announced at an Awards Night at London’s OXO Gallery on December 9, 2025. There will be a free public exhibition of the top images on display immediately following the awards.
The overall winner typically nets more than simple bragging rights. Winnings include an unforgettable one-week safari in the Masai Mara, a trophy, and premium Nikon gear.
Your pick?
If you have a favorite photo, you are invited to weigh in. The People’s Choice Award invites the public to vote on their favorite finalist beginning on December 10, 2025. Voting will extend through March 12, 2026, with one lucky voter drawing a cash prize.
You can view the finalists’ photos here. Click on the first image to enlarge, then either click through using the arrows or use your keyboard’s right arrow to flip to the next one.
Fun facts
This year’s contest attracted entries from around the globe, with nearly 10,000 images from more than 100 countries. Judges screened submissions carefully, checking to see that the photo was authentic and free of digital manipulation or AI editing.
While I loved the photos, reading the accompanying captions was what made me really laugh. See what you think. Find the photos with captions here.

“Baptism of the unwilling convert” was one I laughed at the most. The captions for most of the pics are a hoot! Thanks for the chuckles this morning.
