Reflectix, a shiny, bubble-wrap-like insulation material, is a must-have for RVers looking to stay comfortable year-round. Lightweight, easy to cut, and widely available, Reflectix is most commonly used for temperature control, but its applications extend well beyond insulation.
Here are some unique ways to use Reflectix in and around your RV.
1. Custom window covers
Reflectix is excellent for making DIY window covers to block out heat in the summer and retain warmth in the winter. Simply cut it to the size of your windows and skylights, and press it in place for an instant thermal barrier. It also doubles as a blackout curtain, perfect for light-sensitive sleepers.
2. Line storage compartments
RV storage bays and cabinets can be subject to extreme temperature changes. Line these compartments with Reflectix to protect sensitive items like electronics, food, or toiletries. It helps maintain a more stable temperature, even in fluctuating weather conditions.
3. Portable cooler enhancer
Enhance your portable cooler by lining the inside with Reflectix. This added insulation will keep ice frozen longer and help maintain a consistent temperature for your drinks and perishables during outdoor adventures.
4. Create a draft blocker
In cold weather, drafts often sneak in around door frames or slide-outs. Cut Reflectix to fit these gaps, and use it as a temporary draft blocker. It’s lightweight and easy to store when not in use, making it a practical solution for cold nights.
5. DIY sunshade for outdoor gear
Use Reflectix to create a sunshade for items left outside, such as bikes, grills, or propane tanks. Simply drape it over the equipment, securing it with bungee cords or clips. The reflective surface helps shield items from UV damage and keeps them cooler in direct sunlight.
6. Hot water tank wrap
Improve the efficiency of your water heater by wrapping it in Reflectix. This reduces heat loss and can lower your propane or electricity usage, especially in colder months.
7. Floor padding
Place Reflectix under rugs or mats on your RV floor to add an extra layer of insulation. This is particularly useful when camping in cold climates, as it helps keep the floor warmer and reduces the chill from below.
Hint: Don’t like how Reflectix looks on your windows, in your cabinets, or as a draft-blocking strip? Buy peel-and-stick wallpaper and stick it to it. Now it looks great!
Reflectix is available in all kinds and sizes here.

Reflex is really a lousy insulation, down in the r1 or maybe as high as R3 but not much
Reflex is easy to work with and works quite well for its thickness please tell me what you use that is better and easier to use.
I cut whole sections to fit over the outside of my windows while in summer desert heat, including the metal frames. Held on with several Velcro tabs for ease of installation/removal. Those metal frames transmit lots of heat to an RV interior.
Thank you for the suggestions, RV Travel! Have a great day and safe travels!
