Police recruit jail inmate to start motorhome he stole

If this sounds like something from a badly stretched imagination, hold on, it gets weirder. First, a mermaid’s RV is stolen. Months later, police recover the rig. In the second implausible part of the story, the RV thief is used to hotwire the stolen rig for the mermaid. Strange things happen in Washington state.

Olive, the “aquatic performer”

Olive Teague, a self-professed mermaid, makes her living as an “aquatic performer.” Her home, office, and mermaid gear toter was a 30’ Class C motorhome. Sad to say, crooks took off (swam away?) with her rig from Seattle, Washington, back in December. Olive’s friends set up a gofundme page to try and help Olive get back on her—er—feet?

In March, the missing motorhome was found in Aberdeen, Washington. Much worse for the wear, we might add. Gone from the roof were the a/c unit and solar panels. The outside was dented up. The inside? Well, Olive’s mermaid gear was long gone, along with her personal possessions. Instead, the inside was filled with drug paraphernalia and trash. Adding insult to injury, there were 1,300 more miles on the odometer than when Olive had last been behind the wheel.

Olive’s reaction was perhaps another surprise. She was relieved to get the motorhome back. She figured with help, she could restore that mermaid-mobile and get back in the swim of things. But first, to fire it up. That proved difficult, as the crook who stole the motorhome had punched out the ignition lock. Police tried to help get the motorhome started up—to no avail.

Finally, one of the frustrated law enforcers said he knew who could help. Olive thought the cop would come back with another police officer. No blue uniform. No star on the chest. Instead, the “helper” who came back was dressed in an orange jumpsuit. The same guy who stole the rig was recruited to help get the motorhome started up.

The detainee sat down next to one of Olive’s friends and gave a step-by-step tutorial on how to revive a stolen motorhome. “I saw the actual inmate who stole my car with a screwdriver inches from my friend,” Teague said in footage on a TikTok video. “And he was, like, a really good teacher,” she said.

Outcome for mermaid and crook? You may have already guessed

Olive the mermaid is on her way back to the sea. As for the motorhome thief? Well, he’s more like a tuna—back to the can.

Thank you, Russ and Tina! 🙂 Boy! What a story!?!?! I am glad that she got her RV back. I suppose that she drove to an RV service shop after her RV was hotwired?!? Seems a good idea anyway. Interesting story. Thanks again and safe travels! 🙂

Crazy story. Checked out her gofundme page, and looks like she is close to reaching her goal. Hopefully she has good friends that can help rehabilitate the interior of the rig.
