Detailed tips on how to plan for an RV trip when you’re not a planner

By Nanci Dixon
We often get suggestions, comments and requests from our readers. We received this email from one of those readers, Walter B., asking for help with trip planning.

Walter wrote, ”I so enjoy reading the various RVtravel.com articles but would greatly appreciate an article (or series) on trip planning for dummies. Maybe trip planning examples for part-time RVers, full-time RVers, boondockers, etc. In my case, I am married. We are both retired with a 38-year-old mentally disabled, but functioning, son at home with us and have aging parents living behind us who, though they are physically/mentally good and independent, need help every once in a while.

“Planning has never been a strength of mine; however, I would like to learn from those who are [planners]. … Continue reading.

Ask Dave
Is there an awning to keep RV slide room cooler and not block fridge vents?

Hi Dave,
Can I pick your brain? On our seasonally stationary bumper tow, our entry side gets the most solar gain. Our awning covers the front half ahead of a roughly 30-inch-deep by 15-foot-long slide room with kitchen and smaller couch. I would like to shade the roof and especially side wall of the slide room from the sun on days that are not too windy…. Read the rest of Jim’s question and Dave’s answer.

Beware of private seller RV scams

By Cheri Sicard
Buying an RV from a private seller can seem like a great way to save money. However, it also opens the door to scams. Buying from private sellers can be more dangerous than going to a dealership. Dwayne, our favorite certified RV inspector from the RV Inspection and Care channel, is here to help.

RV tripping to Bryce Canyon National Park: What to know, what to do, where to stay

By Dale Wade
We are on the road again traveling Nature’s Highways to Bryce Canyon National Park (BRCA) in Utah. There is nothing quite like Bryce Canyon camping. On February 25, 1928, Bryce Canyon officially became a national park of 35,835 acres. The park hosts 300,000+ visitors monthly from May through September. Spectacular views from the top step of the immemorial Grand Staircase and its tribe of hoodoos seemingly standing watch earn BRCA a place on your bucket list. [Hoodoo you love?] Continue reading.

Quick tip
RV storage ideas? Think outside the cabinet

The folks at Home Is Where We Take It came up with this unusual but fascinating idea. When looking for RV storage ideas, think outside the box. “We added this can storage to the side of our cabinet near our stove. We got ours from Walmart and it is perfect for cans in an otherwise unused space. If you don’t use cans, I could easily see using this space for shoe storage or maybe a great place for kitchen wraps/Ziplocs. If you have small kids, this would be a great place for activity containers. There’s no need to waste space when you don’t have it to waste!”

? MYSTERY PRODUCT OF THE DAY ?
The man reached in his wallet and suddenly he could see again! What was in the wallet? Find out.

BUMPER SNICKER: “If you can read this, I can hit my brakes and sue you.”

And the survey says…

We’ve polled RVtravel.com readers close to 5,000 times in recent years. Here are a few things we’ve learned about them:

• If offered rattlesnake as an appetizer, 41 percent say they would definitely eat it.
• 39 percent said they would still eat their favorite comfort food even if it shortened their life by one year.
• 71 percent own a lawnmower.

Recent poll: At the grocery store, would you prefer to use a self-checkout or go through a line with a “real human” to check you out?

RANDOM RV THOUGHT: In our society where virtually everything we eat is purchased from a supermarket, a campsite by a stream may provide a child with the realization that what we eat needn’t always come from a store. It can be a great thrill for Junior, when fishing with Dad, to land a small trout, clean it, and then eat it for dinner. To a child, such an occasion can be an eye opener that the food that nourishes us was actually once alive, and not just manufactured to be sold at the market.

“Drive” through a campground

At Campground Views, you can “drive” through campgrounds just like you would with your car or RV. Stop where you want: look up, look down, look all around. If you like what you see, click on the blue icon and get instant info about the site, availability, and even make a reservation right there and then (not available on this preview). Today, climb into your cyber driving seat and take a spin though Riverside Campground at South Carolina’s Lake Wateree State Park. This is fun!

Trivia

A 2015 study estimated that there are roughly 3 trillion trees on Earth, give or take a few million. Since there are around 8 billion people currently living on the planet, that means there are about 400 trees per person on Earth.

Regarding the “Random RV Thought” My granddaughter would NEVER eat a vegetable until my daughter taught her to plant & nurture her own container vegetable garden. Of course, now she will only eat their homegrown veggies. I’m totally okay with that.

👍 Growing one’s own food, whether plant or animal, hunting, fishing, and gathering, teaches a lot one will never learn or fully appreciate in a grocery store. It teaches a respect that’s hard to understand or attain from cellophane wrap or cardboard containers.

My scenic helicopter rides were with the Sea Wolves in Nam. Beautiful from a great distance, not so much at lower altitudes

I read the book called The Appalachian Trail by Philip D Anieri. This book explains the history and development of the Appalachian trail and how this trail created Earth Day. So along with earth day we need to thank those who developed the trail that eventually helped earth day become earth day.

Went on the Campground View website to sign up for the “Free” membership. apparently, you can only get access and an account if you buy the upgrade. What part of “free” don’t they understand? Or am I missing something?
