SodaStream Terra sparkling water maker saves space and money!

The SodaStream Terra is without a doubt one of my favorite RV kitchen accessories. Why?  Because I am a bona fide fizz fiend! While I don’t usually drink sweetened or diet sodas, I am addicted to sparkling water, both plain and flavored.

After a recent particularly large grocery shopping excursion, two things finally occurred to me:

• I was spending far too much on cases of sparkling water.
• All those cases of sparkling water took up too much room in my RV and contributed far too many cans to the trash heap and/or recycling barrels.

The SodaStream Terra put an end to all that. In seconds, it turns plain water into fizzy sparkling water. You can leave it plain or flavor it with essences for a homemade version of the popular LaCroix-type mineral waters, or you can get soda syrups, in regular or sugar-free versions, to make homemade sodas in all your favorite flavors (or create your own new ones). You can even get name-brand Pepsi and Mountain Dew syrups.

In addition, I have successfully used drops of LorAnn candy flavors to add sugar-free flavor essences to water. If you want sweetened sodas in addition to all the flavors you can get from SodaStream, Torani, DaVinci, and other Italian soda syrups work well too.

The SodaStream Terra works with a CO2 canister that you simply exchange for a full one when empty. I keep an extra on hand, so I am never out. Each canister carbonates about 60 liters of water.

What I especially like about the SodaStream Terra

• The machine does not take up a lot of real estate in an RV kitchen, certainly less than carting around cases of soft drinks.
• Empty Co2 canisters can be exchanged for full ones at Target stores (and other retailers), or online.
• You can control how much or how little carbonation you get by how many times you push the button and for how long.
• There are endless flavor possibilities.
• It is a simple machine, needing no electrical or battery power to work.
• The Terra is compatible with all SodaStream flavors and SodaStream carbonation bottles (BPA-free and better for the planet), except the SodaStream glass carafe.
• SodaStream has helped reduce millions of single-use plastic bottles.

What can be improved?

I adore this product. I had one of the first SodaStream models when they first came out years ago. I loved it and used it for more than a decade. The Terra is even easier to use and more streamlined in size. The only complaint I have is that you have to use special bottles and, for plastic bottles, extra bottles are kind of expensive at about $10 apiece. But then, they last forever, so it’s really not such a big deal.
