MeerKat CampKat: A bare-bones teardrop trailer—Make it how you want it

Are your RV needs simple? Then the CampKat, a bare-bones, no-frills teardrop trailer by MeerKat Trailers might just fit the bill. In the video below we get a walk-through tour from the team at Playing with Sticks.

While some of today’s teardrop trailers come with LOTS of amenities, these add weight and expense. If you just want a step up from tent camping, you probably don’t need them.

The CampKat is lightweight, easy to tow with nearly anything, and easy to store in most garages. But it has some great features that will make camping more comfortable and convenient.

The one-piece fiberglass body makes it lightweight, easy to maintain, and aerodynamic. Best of all, because there are no seams, it’s practically leakproof. The CampKat teardrop trailer is available in both standard and off-road editions. The latter has a 3-inch lift kit, diamond plate fenders and rock protection, and 18 inches of ground clearance.

The trailer has a versatile open hatchback area. This is where many teardrops place their kitchens. However, since this is a bare-bones trailer, the space is there but you will have to outfit it. Of course, this gives the consumer a lot of flexibility over how they customize their trailer.

If you are tall, this trailer can comfortably accommodate you as the bed space opens up all the way under the back hatch (see the video). If you are not so tall, this area will gain you extra storage space. I love the two large, windowed access doors, both for easy entrance and for ventilation.

Inside is a nice amount of storage. The mattress can be folded into a trifold for daytime seating.

More nice features of the CampKat teardrop trailer

  • One-piece fiberglass shell
  • Fantastic vent fan
  • LED lighting
  • Lockable front storage box
  • Alloy wheels
  • Dexter rubber torsion axle
  • Roof rack rated for 100 pounds

What’s not to like?

This is basic, so any frills and amenities you will have to add yourself. That is not a bad thing, as you can customize it as you go along with what you need.

As long as you understand this is a step up from tent camping you are good. There is no plumbing at all—no onboard water, sink, shower, or toilet.

Thamk you, Cheri! 🙂 Nice! A hard-sided “tent,” which makes both set-up and “break-down” a snap! 🙂 Between the price, the flexibility, and the cachet, I can see this becoming very popular with a youngish age group. Thanks again and safe travels! 🙂

I do always chuckle a bit when these very tiny units have what is called a “walk-through tour.” 😉🙂 Maybe a “Crawl Through” or “Peek In” tour.

I would like to see the person who can do an RV Walk-through in this bubble.

Not even the possibility of add ing a/c, which is a requirement in the humid SE.
