Travel Lite Up Country 550U-XS—The truck camper for midsize trucks

Midsize truck owners hear the same line all the time: The truck is too small for a real camper. That is why the Travel Lite Up Country 550U-XS stands out. It is a hard-side truck camper built for midsize trucks like the Toyota Tacoma, Nissan Frontier, Chevy Colorado, GMC Canyon, and Ford Ranger, and it keeps the setup compact instead of turning the truck into a bulky mess.

At 1,100 pounds dry, it aims at buyers who want a simple camping setup with real shelter, air conditioning, and a place to sleep.

The video at the end of this post from Noah The RV Guy shows how it all comes together.

Why this midsize truck camper makes sense

A truck camper like the 550U-XS keeps the truck easy to live with. It does not hang far off the back, so the driver still gets much of the maneuverability that makes a Tacoma or other midsize truck useful on trails, park roads, hunting land, and rough backroads.

Another big draw is towing. Because the camper rides in the bed, the truck can still pull something behind it, like a boat. That makes this setup a strong fit for weekend travelers who want one vehicle to handle camping and recreation.

Exterior features built for short trips and off-grid use

The Travel Lite Up Country 550U-XS comes prewired for solar, so portable panels can plug in and help charge the battery. It also has a cable hookup, a 30-amp power connection, outside 110 outlets, city and fresh water connections, an outdoor shower, and an on-demand tankless water heater.

The jacks are manual crank units from the factory, although they can be upgraded to electric jacks. A drill attachment can also make setup easier.

Travel Lite backs the structure with a 4-year warranty.

On the style side, the camper has fireplace-themed vinyl graphics and a sharp front cap plate design. There is also a propane tank spot on the outside.

A small interior that still covers the basics

Travel Liter truck camper interiorInside, Travel Lite uses the space well. The darker countertop gives it a cleaner, more current look, and the dinette uses fabric cushions instead of material that peels over time. Two seats face each other, and the swivel table works for meals or cards. When lowered, that same space becomes an extra bed for a child or guest.

The kitchen is simple but useful. There is prep space, small storage cubbies, and enough room for basic camp cooking. The refrigerator is small, more like a dorm fridge, with a freezer section on top.

The bathroom is one of the biggest selling points because it gives the camper a real indoor option for toilet use and a quick shower. It uses a portable toilet and a shower curtain, but it is tight. Anyone over 6 feet tall may struggle.

Above, the queen bed sits over the truck cab and has windows on both sides. It feels more like a loft than a cramped bunk, and it can sleep two adults.

A Dometic air conditioner rounds out the setup and gives the camper one feature many buyers care about most in summer—strong cooling.

Final thoughts

The Travel Lite Up Country 550U-XS fits a gap that many truck owners know well. It gives midsize pickups a real camper option without asking them to tow a trailer or move up to a heavy-duty truck. For boat owners, weekend hunters, anglers, and even work travelers who want to skip hotel costs, this camper makes a strong case.

MSRP ranges from $29,000 to $30,750, depending on optional features. However, real-world dealer prices generally fall between $19,995 and $22,999.
