In the handy video below, Heather from Heather’s Hikes & AdVANtures outlines low-wattage appliances she says are essential for van lifers but, really, they would benefit any RVer, especially those who like to camp off-grid. These appliances can be powered by most portable power stations, giving you functionality anywhere you roam. They’re also all inexpensive and easy to use.
Be sure to watch till the end of the video as Heather puts the appliances to the test, using two different portable power stations, to see that they actually pull the amount of power their specs claim.
#1 Heated lunchbox (under 50 watts): I never knew this product existed, but I can think of a million uses for it. Essentially, it heats foods and keeps them warm. As it never gets above 165 degrees F, this is a slow cooker in another size and shape, and creative camping cooks could use it as such. Heather likes the one by Hot Logic, which draws less than 45 watts of power. However, there are many variations beyond this one. Some need to be plugged in but don’t take a lot of power; others run off your vehicle’s 12-volt system.
#2 Dash Mini Griddle (350 watts): Heather uses this versatile tiny appliance to make everything from burgers to breakfast sandwiches.
#3 Dash mini egg bite maker (420 watts): This appliance does basically the same thing as the griddle, but it is slightly larger and pulls slightly higher wattage. Again, Heather shares some of her culinary creations using this appliance, including what she says is the best grilled cheese sandwich ever.
#4 Dezin electric pot (150 – 600 watts): This medium-sized electric pot with cover is the most versatile of all of these already versatile appliances. Put in the ingredients, turn it on, and you are cooking without a stove.
#5 balbali electric kettle (300 watts): Heather says this is her number one most used appliance. She says it is the quickest, most efficient way to boil water.

#2 Looks like a great Deal and workable…Just not for me, but it would have been 30 years ago. A P & J sandwich with a glass of real milk would work for me nowadays.
I have to keep my boyish figure…….
Thank you, Cheri! Interesting, I had no idea these existed. Have a great week and safe travels!
