If you are an RVer with a sewing machine, Tracy from The Sewing Channel is going to show you how to make a safe wallet, a useful travel accessory everyone should have. What is a safe wallet? A wallet that protects your sensitive personal and credit card information from being stolen. If you don’t have a safe wallet, thieves can easily steal your information.
In the video, Tracy explains how thieves with a radio frequency ID (RFID) scanner device can steal personal information from your credit cards through your purse or pocket without you even knowing it. If you did not already know about this common identity theft scam, prepare to be shocked.
Tracy designed her easy-to-make wallet out of RFID shielding fabric. You can cut and sew this fabric into all manner of bags and wallets, all of which will block RFID transmissions and keep your personal information safe.
This is a fun and easy quilted wallet that even a beginner could make. Rather than tell you how to make it, it is best to watch Tracy’s excellent video tutorial. It shows you exactly what you will need and how to put it all together step by step.
She has a simple pattern available, or you could use the RFID-blocking fabric with any favorite wallet or bag pattern you may already have. Be sure to watch until the end of the video as Tracy uses an EMF (electromagnetic field) meter to put the safe wallet to the test.
Besides making a safe wallet for yourself, this project also makes a useful gift for nearly everyone on your list. Just alter the outer fabric to fit your giftee’s style. The safe wallets are quick, easy, and inexpensive to make, so it’s time to get busy, sewers!
And if you don’t want to sew your own wallet, there are tons of RFID-blocking wallets and protective cards to buy on Amazon.

Got a passport or a passport card? The embedded chip has a LOT of personal information that is in no way encrypted. We always keep these highly desirable documents in their RFID blocking carriers except when right in front of a border agent. Too many people pull them out for the agent and wait until later to re-secure them. Identity thieves know this.
