Winnebago Industries, Inc. (Winnebago) is recalling certain 2021-2025 EKKO motorhomes. The solar charging system was incorrectly designed without sufficient over-current protection, which can allow the circuit to overheat and melt the fuse.
A melted fuse increases the risk of a fire, which can lead to injury or worse. As many as 2,193 RVs may be affected by this safety recall issued on July 18, 2024.
Remedy
The remedy is currently under development. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed September 13, 2024. Owners may contact Winnebago customer service at 1-641-585-3535. Winnebago’s number for this recall is 186.
Notes
Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.

Did anyone read this hilarious press release? It states that overheated wiring can cause a fuse to melt. Which is what a fuse is supposed to do. And then it states that a melted fuse can cause fires. _Not if it melts and breaks the circuit_.
Good catch, John! Thank you! 🙂 Safe travels! 🙂
Winnebago joining the recall list too, oh my!
Thank you, RV Travel! 🙂 More recalls?!? Perhaps manufacturers should consider the harm to their own reputation and do a bit better job in their quality control operation!?!? So, if there isn’t a “fix” yet, what do owners do? Disconnect their solar panels? Thanks for the warning, RV Travel. Although it likely is more expensive to do, I have become convinced that should I ever get solar panels installed, that I will use a third party that specializes in such an installation. Perhaps also for lithium batteries. Thanks again, have a great day, safe travels, and safe stays! 🙂
Design failure?? Did they have their cabinet maker design the solar system? Come On People!
