After three years, Yosemite’s Tuolumne Meadows Campground reopens

Yosemite National Park is rolling out the welcome mat at its legendary high‑country campground, Tuolumne Meadows.

Here’s everything you need to know to snag a spot and make the most of your stay.

Details

After three years of upgrades, Tuolumne Meadows Campground will reopen August 1, 2025. The opening marks the first time the campground has welcomed guests since construction kicked off in 2022.

Tuolumne Meadows Campground will offer the following sites:

• 336 total sites serving up to 2,200 visitors nightly

• 304 RV sites, 21 backpacker, seven group, and four horse campsites

• Includes ten accessible restrooms (plus a winter vault toilet) and 29 new hike‑in sites.

Modernized facilities

The campground updates include:

• Ten ADA‑compliant restrooms with flushing toilets and drinking water

• Upgraded picnic tables, fire rings, and secure food lockers at every site

• Brand‑new water distribution and sewer lines

• Loop A road realigned to create a 150‑foot buffer from the Tuolumne River

• Relocated 21 campsites to restore sensitive habitat

• Dana Campfire Circle refreshed with accessible routes and companion seating for evening Ranger talks

Reservations

Important information about securing reservations:

• Reservation bookings opened on July 1, 2025, on Recreation.gov.

• Campground stays: August 1 – September 1, 2025 (half the sites release two months ahead on the 15th; the rest open on a rolling two‑week window)

• Fees: $26 per night for loops A–G; $50 for group sites; $30 for horse campsites

Tips for RVers

Check each site’s length limit before booking. Most spots accommodate RVs up to 35 feet (trailers up to 35 feet), but not every site can handle the maximum.

Read the “Permitted Equipment” section on Recreation.gov or call the campground office at 209‑372‑4025 to confirm your rig’s fit.

High‑elevation logistics

• Elevation: ~8,600 feet (plan for thinner air and cooler nights)

• Access: Reachable via Tioga Road (Highway 120) once snow clears. This stretch typically opens mid- to late-June and closes by early November.

• Peak‑hours entry may require a park reservation June 15 – August 15 and August 30 – September 1

RVer packing and safety tips

• Fill your RV’s fresh tanks in Yosemite Valley or Crane Flat before heading up. Dump stations are limited at high‑country sites.

• Store food in provided lockers. Keep a safe distance from bears and other critters.

• Summer days can be sunny but nights dip into the 40s°F. Layer up and bring warm bedding.

• Cell coverage is nearly non‑existent. Download maps and itinerary details in advance.

You should go!

Tuolumne Meadows Campground’s reopening means you can enjoy Yosemite’s high country with updated facilities. Plan a trip soon.

Perfect example of why the waste and inefficiencies the Forest Service is famous for are being eliminated. Three years to refurbish an existing campground!!! Even with the winter that is hard to believe. A private industry manager in charge of that project would be fired after the second year for non-performance.
