Yellowstone National Park employees will soon be able to sleep better. Yellowstone NP got a $40 million anonymous donation to bring in new housing, addressed as an “urgent need.”
Because of a group of anonymous donors, some 70 modular housing units will be moved into the park. The donors are hopeful their gift will inspire others to make a similar move for other national parks where staff housing issues are grave.
“This transformational gift will meet a critical need for new housing in Yellowstone, and be a catalyst for more philanthropic investment,” Will Shafroth said in a statement. “These skilled, dedicated professionals at the National Park Service who protect our parks and make visitors’ experiences great deserve housing they can be proud to call home.” Shafroth is President and CEO of the National Parks Foundation, which joined with the Park Service in announcing the gift.
The Yellowstone NP $40 million anonymous donation will see fruition as new units will start moving into the park later this year.

I’d have done it for $551,000.00 per unit.
Hypothetical: $100,000.00 each for 70 MODULAR units is $7,000,000 hard cost. That’s $33,000,000 in over valued excess for tax deduction purposes. I’m not saying anything fishy is happening here, I’m just asking if coleslaw and lemon is on the side?
Glad that group isn’t on my list for donations this year. Are they also a preferred vendor for DOD hammers and toilet seats?

My guess is that the contractor getting the $571k per modular unit is related somehow to someone on the donor end. I have no knowledge that is the case but running $40mm of donations into the private marketplace for personal gain seems the most likely scenario. Sure would like to see the other bids. You and I can bid the next one maybe.
Seems Fani Willis and loverboy Wade ish, or Solyndra filtering/returning tax dollars as campaign contributions.
I know, I’m pretty jaded, but $571k COST per modular home doesn’t seem like an example of altruism.

My only comment is that I hope the modular units are multi-occupant type housing vice individual “trailers”. Otherwise seems pretty pricey.
So everyone is looking at advantage donor. I don’t know the cost of modular unit, but I do know some other costs that could contribute to the expense. Start with land costs, septic and potable water source for openers. Site preparation IN A NATIONAL PARK. Unit delivery. I would also hope that it includes a fund to provide ongoing maintenance for the expected life of the units. I hope this includes a reasonable profit for the parties involved.
