RVtravel.com can confirm that James Bond actor Pierce Brosnan is slated for his day in a Wyoming court. A case was filed in the U.S. District Court for Wyoming on Tuesday, December 26, 2023. The charges stem from his alleged actions in Wyoming’s Yellowstone National Park.
James Bond actor walks off boardwalk
Brosnan will appear before U.S. Magistrate Judge Stephanie Hambrick on January 23 to answer to two charges. The citation issued to the Hollywood actor indicates that he failed to observe this mandate: “Foot travel in all thermal areas and within the Yellowstone Canyon between the Upper Falls and Inspiration Point must be confined to boardwalks or trails that are maintained for such travel and are marked by official signs.” Another charge alleges he “Violated a closure, designation, use or activity restriction or condition, schedule of visiting hours, or public use.”
The date of Brosnan’s alleged offenses was November 1, 2023. Brosnan has been in the area on a Western film shoot, “Unholy Trinity”.
“Petty offense”?
While the violations are ranked as a “petty offenses,” if the history of others convicted of the same actions are any indication, the outcomes can certainly sting. In 2021, a 26-year-old woman, Madeline S. Casey, was sentenced for walking on thermal ground at Yellowstone’s Norris Geyser. Casey was slapped with $2,000 in fines and payments. She also spent a week in jail, and was placed on two years of probation. During her probationary period, she was banned from entering Yellowstone National Park.
Aside from the judicial sword aspects of these cases, perhaps there’s a far greater reason for staying on the Yellowstone boardwalks: the inherent physical danger to those who walk off these safety zones.
In October 2021, a 20-year-old woman from Washington state suffered second-degree thermal burns on her shoulders and feet at Yellowstone’s Maiden’s Grave Spring. The woman leaped into the spring in an attempt to rescue her dog. Sadly, the dog died in the 200-degree hot spring. Other incidents have occurred at Yellowstone, leading to the park officials to give this warning: “Hot springs have injured or killed more people in Yellowstone than any other natural feature,” and the water can cause “severe or fatal burns.”

I hope he gets what he deserves. What a clown…
Doubtful.
Sigh… probably so
You may not understand why those of us who live in Wyoming get so tired of the disrespect these idiots display for our beautiful and fragile park. There are signs posted EVERYWHERE, almost making it ugly, to warn people that they are required to stay ON the boardwalks and paths. This is for OUR OWN safety and the preservation/protection of the fragile ground just off the boardwalks. I keep believing that our country could handle less regulation from our government but then I read or hear a story about something stupid happening in Yellowstone that some idiot intentionally did, despite the rules and the possible punishments for breaking them. So then I start back in square one again. Ugh!
Not sure his deal, perhaps he stepped aside so someone could pass. I guess we’ll see how this goes. Meanwhile, I am so sorry for dog who died and its owner. Thank you, Russ and Tina, and have a great new year!
“I’m sorry. Don’t you understand that my celebrity status exempts me from such trivial nonsense. And, by the way I’m working here. You’re holding up production.”
If he was a stand up kinda guy, he would publicly apologize and pay the fine.
If found guilty, they should make the fine a percentage of annual income. Otherwise, it’s no big deal if you are rich. The jail time and probation will still hurt, though.
“No one is above the law”. Where have I heard that one before?
That’s the real “Big Lie”
From the Democrats trying to stop Trump from becoming President again.
Depends what side the judge is on.
I hope you follow up with the outcome….
What’s this “petty offense” article have to do with RV’ing?
I can understand the gal jumping in to save her dog (though I wonder why her dog was there in the first place). If my wife somehow fell in, I would jump in immediately to try to save her – laws be damned.
We don’t know if this ‘star’ took a hike on this ground, or just stepped in to regain his balance. The article is a bit vague on how much time he spent violating the law. I doubt much will happen. Remember Alec Baldwin.
Um, the article headline says “…BRONSON…” It should be “…BROSNAN…”
Oops! Thanks, David. Someone-who-shall-remain-nameless went in and changed the title (adding the name) after I had proofed the post. It’s been corrected. Have a great day and a terrific 2024! –Diane at RVtravel.com
How about a large thermometer with a probe IN the water to remind people ” It’s Really HOT.
OF course, then we’d have to have 2 one in Fahrenheit the other in Celsius
I also would like to hear a follow up to this. I find it pretty hard to believe, he outright disobeyed signs. I would not be surprised if the full incident was not revealed here. Besides being an actor he and his wife are environmentalists, and activists. He is also an accomplished painter and has had his work in solo shows.
Good point. Seems incongruous with environmental interests.
A National Park ranger has been quoted as saying “there is considerable overlap between the intelligence of the smartest bears and the dumbest tourists”. Apparently that extends to DO NOT signs and tourists. 🙂
