In the video below, we join the Runaway Roses for a tour of the 2024 Northern Lite 9-6 truck camper, a high-quality combination of form and function.
In the video they call this model the 9-6Q; however, I see no such model on the Northern Lite website. As best I can determine, judging by the weight, we are actually looking at the Northern Lite 9-6LE (or limited edition). For whatever reason, Northern Lite seems to have dropped the Q from the title. I assume it stands for queen-sized bed, which this camper has.
This is a true 4-seasons RV that can go from Canadian winters to Arizona summers with ease. The body is molded fiberglass, which, in theory, should reduce maintenance and leaks.
Northern Lite upgraded the solar package this year, so this camper now comes with three 200-watt rooftop solar panels.
I was surprised at the amount of exterior basement storage this has—something fairly rare in truck campers. This is a long, deep storage space with convenient slide-out drawers. Brilliant! Another outdoor storage compartment is large enough to hold a generator. Although with 600 watts of rooftop solar, you might not ever need it.
Upon entering the back door, you are greeted by a large wardrobe closet on top of a long storage cubby. There’s another small wardrobe in the bedroom along with a ton more storage alongside the bed.
On the other side of the back door entrance, you will find the molded fiberglass wet bath with toilet, sink, and shower.
The kitchen is great with a large 6-cubic-foot refrigerator and freezer, a 3-burner stove, oven, microwave, and a huge stainless steel sink. I always complain about tiny sink sizes in small RVs, but not this time!
The camper in the video has a large U-shaped dinette, which I prefer. But you can also get this camper with a face-to-face dinette.

What’s not to like?
Honestly, I did not find a lot to complain about with this one. Were I in the market for a high-end truck camper, this one would be HIGH on the list. I love the 4-seasons aspect, and the build quality seems worthy of mention. I have a friend with one of these that he’s had little problem with over the years—save for a tree falling on it.
Note that you will need a long-bed truck for this camper.

That wet bath toilet looks like a really uncomfortable combo. Showering especially. And, if you’re a ‘make your bed every morning’ kinda crowd like wifey and I, this setup would be a nightmare. Quickly getting up in the middle of the night with a leg cramp would be ‘fun’.I guess I’ve lost my love for slide-in campers that I had in the early 80’s. Gettin’ too old for twisting and turning. However, I do like the 600 watt rooftop solar, because lifting a heavy generator into that generator-designated area would take two of us. The last objection would be the price; you still need a truck!
They never mentioned one of the biggest reasons to choose the 9-6 over a 10-2 – the hitch extension can be much less than half the length of that needed by a 10-2. I commonly use an 18-inch extension for my ATV trailer versus needing a 48” bazooka for a 10-2! A hitch extension that long really limits your trailer weight options and where you can go. Also the >500 pound weight savings versus a 10-2 and the little known fact that a 9-6 has a 3” wider hallway than a 10-2 and a 2” longer dinette bed if that is important.

The cost of this camper, even discounted, + the cost of a new 1-ton, long-bed truck to replace my 3/4-ton, reg.-bed truck would exceed the cost of our slightly used, 1 year-old, 2020 diesel motorhome when we bought it in 2021.
But Northern Lites, like Adventurer truck campers, were originally designed for Canadian winters. So they are both definitely “cold weather capable”!
