Dear Dave,
Is there a way to set the stop limits on the RV’s slide out with compartments below that has a rack and pinion slide mechanism? I keep stripping the forward gear by leaving the in button depressed too long when bringing the slide out in. It’s very tricky to release the in button at just the right time to seal the outside seals yet don’t strip the gear. —Will, 2017 Winnebago Sightseer 33C
Dear Will,
According to the Winnebago website and the 3D drawings, the slide room you are referring to is the front right which has the Power Gear rack and pinion mechanism. The left side slide room has a Schwintek mechanism with the rails top and bottom.
For many years, Winnebago designed the storage compartments underneath that extended out with the slide room calling it “Storemore”. They eventually went back to the traditional compartments that were fixed as the “Storemore” compartments eliminated pass through storage over the frame rail since the back of the compartments had to be sealed.
The advantage was accessibility when the room was extended and not needing to crawl underneath the slide room to get to the compartment.

Winnebago 3D drawings of RV’s slide room
As most of you know, I like the Winnebago questions as I can go to the website and get the actual part and location. Here is the 3D drawing of your slide out with the compartments and mechanism.

I was also able to go to the parts breakdown of the mechanism and find that there is a stop listed on the site.

It is a little hard to see, however, the Winnebago PN is 172400-01-711, and the vendor PN is 2010000400. It is the small yellowish/green component under the motor, which you can see on the site here.

According to the Power Gear Service Manual, the motor should sense the resistance of the room flange coming to the sidewall and automatically shut down. I contacted Lippert and they want the following information:
- Full VIN of coach
- Date of coach manufacture from the VIN label
- Retail purchase date of the coach
- Pictures of the slide mechanism and gear
Possible cause of stripped slide room gears
We already know what the part is and the part number, so I contacted my “GOAT” at Winnebago. He stated that it does have adjustable mechanical stops. However, if it keeps stripping the gear, he feels it is in the controller and not sensing the amp draw and shutting the motor down. Adjusting the stops would still allow the mechanism to provide resistance that would create a higher amp draw and the controller should shut the motor down.
I would recommend contacting Lippert with the information here:

At times my slideout only retracts partway and stops. What should I do?
Dear Dave,
Our large slideout sometimes goes in 1/4 of the way and stops. I can push on it and sometimes this helps. This happens about half of the time. Other times it goes in OK. I was told that it is low voltage, but the batteries are charged. I am wondering if the relay contacts are the issue and should I replace the relay. Two years ago the screws under the slideout backed out and the slideout was removed and screws replaced. What can I do to help? What type of lubricant can I use that won’t get on the carpet when the slide is in? Jeff, 2007 Fleetwood Bounder
