Duarte, California, unwelcomes RVers
RV dwellers will pay $5 for an RV overnight parking permit in Duarte, CA. Permits are good for up to three days but are limited to two per month. The result will be to limit to RV residents to six overnights in the city per month. On-street RV parking will still be permitted from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Homeowners will also be restricted from storing their RVs on the street.
Nebraska campground without power
Floods in March left Willow Creek Campground in Pierce, NE, without electricity and water. Campsites are open but if you plan to camp there, check ahead to see when facilities will be restored. Help is available for changing your reservations without penalty.
Horse Park Campground does Bluegrass
The Festival of the Bluegrass is scheduled for June 6-9 at the Kentucky Horse Park Campground in Lexington. Bluegrass stars on hand will include the Lonesome River Band, The Seldom Scene, Newtown and the Hog Slop String Band. Come for the comedy acts, music galore, food, Olympic-size swimming pool and horsing around. The campground offers 260 paved, back-in, 55-foot sites with fire rings and picnic tables. The campground provides shuttles to the horse park during the summer. A $6 fee applies to reservations.
New app for Flying J
RV travelers who use RV-friendly facilities and Flying J Pilot fuel stops can get a new app with a section just for them. Other sections of the app are specific for professional drivers and auto drivers. Go to pilotflyingj.com .
London, Ontario, camp no longer KOA
Formerly the London/401 KOA, Campers Corner RV and Camp Resort near the Thames River and Route 401 reminds travelers that its pool closes for the season after Labor Day each year. It’s pet friendly and has 100 tent and full hook-up RV sites, some of them pull-through. In Canada, Labour Day is the first Monday in September, the same as in the U.S.
Michigan campground has free organ concerts
A campground with a pipe organ? Yes, and it’s a lulu. The magnificent 3,503-pipe organ at the Lake Leelanau RV Park in Michigan is a combination of a 1923 Moller and a 1967 Casavant. Pipes range in length from 3/8 inch to 16 feet. Majestic concerts are scheduled for selected dates throughout the summer. Travelers are welcome any time to see the organ. North Carolina KOA open after Hurricane Florence
Badly damaged from a severe storm last September, the New Bern KOA Holiday has reopened with facilities including WiFi, swimming pool, mini-golf and a dog park.
Vancouver posts “No Vacancy” sign for RVs
Add Vancouver, British Columbia, to the list of cities that ban overnight RV parking. No RVs are permitted on city streets from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m., and they may be parked in one spot for no more than three hours between 6 a.m. and 10 p.m.
A massive blueberry farm in Auburndale, Florida, is being turned into a 436-site RV resort. This new land use has just been approved. We’ll provide details when they become available. The site is just off I-4 between Tampa and Orlando.
Camping fees at Rhode Island state parks are ballooning this season from $4 to $16 for state residents and $16 to $40 for non-residents. Campsites are priced in three tiers according to location and facilities. Under the new proposal, non-residents will pay as much as $60 for a Tier One campsite.
Crystal River, Florida, known as a favorite wintering spot for manatees, may soon have a new RV campground. Zoning changes are being asked for the building of the Coastal Bay RV Resort.

New RV park outside Kalispell, Montana, to open in June
The Montana Basecamp RV Resort will offer upscale camping just south of Kalispell. The first phase will feature 62 spaces, with plans for 330 sites when completed. Each site will be large enough to accommodate the largest Class A, and all sites will be back-in. Learn more at Daily Inter Lake.
South Dakota seeks public input to expand Palisades State Park
South Dakota officials are seeking public input on a project to expand Palisades State Park near Sioux Falls. The South Dakota Department of Game, Fish and Parks wants to double the 157-acre park’s footprint, as well as add 70 campgrounds, new amenities and recreational uses. Palisades State Park, 20 miles northeast of Sioux Falls, is one of the smallest but busiest state parks, with more than 90,000 visitors each year. The department plans to solidify its expansion plans next year. —From Rapid City Journal
West Virginia’s Bluestone State Park Campground openings delayed
West Virginia State Park officials announced the 2019 opening of Meador Campground, Tent Area Campground and Old Mill Campground at Bluestone State Park will be delayed until mid-June. Heavy rains and major flooding caused two road slides and extensive electrical damage at the campgrounds. Meador and Old Mill campgrounds offer RV sites with some amenities.
Recreational marijuana smoking is illegal in Washington state parks
Even though recreational marijuana smoking is legal in Washington state, it is illegal in Washington State Parks, even inside your RV. But medical marijuana is legal, as long as you are out of public view and have your medical recognition card or a health care professional’s authorization.
