Fact or Fiction? Electric heaters that run off RV house batteries are practical to heat an RV during snowy winter

RV blogs, social media groups and YouTube videos have exploded over the past couple of years. Some provide great information, others questionable information and some downright bad information. Can you tell the difference? In this regular column, we will post a question based on information we find online. You can then test your RV prowess by seeing how your answer compares with our experts.

The following statement is contained in an article on Camper Smarts entitled Ski Resorts That Allow RV Parking: “A big issue when staying at a ski resort in your RV is quiet hours. You’ll want to bring portable electric heaters that run off your house batteries because you typically must turn off generators after 10 p.m. Your RV’s furnace may run off of propane and the system runs off the house batteries, but if you’re staying for a week, that’s a lot of propane.” While there are many parts to this statement, let’s just focus on portable electric heaters that run off your house batteries.

Your poll is incorrectly written so it can’t be answered. Rewrite as a statement, not a question.

My house batteries will run a 1,500-watt electric heater constantly for about two-hours from fully charged until being depleted to about 50-percent and then they are done.  Not practical for heating my RV in the snowy winter time.

Would be a better yes or no answer.
