Ferry delayed: RVer threatens to drive motorhome off the dock

Ever taken your RV on a ferry? It’s always an interesting experience. But would-be riders on Washington state’s Mukilteo ferry run got a long delay Tuesday, all because of an RVer. A woman said she’d drive her motorhome off the dock.

Didn’t need a ticket to board?

Police fielded a 911 call from a ferry worker who reported a woman at a ticket booth “causing a disturbance.” On arrival, law enforcement officers found the woman had simply driven her Class C unit around the booth, and parked it in the ferry loading lane. Evidently, she didn’t feel the need for a ticket to board.

When police tried to have a reasoned discussion with the motorhome driver, she “made threats to the officers,” say official reports. At one point, she said she’d drive off the dock. Thinking she might be on drugs, responders worked to de-escalate the situation. However, ferry traffic was piling up, and had to be kept away from the incident. What to do?

After an hour of talk didn’t yield the desired results, an alternate plan was put into use. Since one of the motorhome’s windows was wide open, well-aimed pepperballs were blasted into the RV and got the result law enforcement officers wanted. The 44-year-old Everett, Washington, woman bailed out of the motorhome. She was quickly arrested without further incident. An aid crew evaluated her and whisked her away for a mental health evaluation.

Lots of LEOs, but this responder not needed

While multiple law enforcement agencies responded, one crew was not required. No tow truck needed, as the threat to drive the motorhome off the dock never got off the ground. Or the dock. Want to see the account of another motorhome driver who missed the ferry—literally? Check out this video.

Thank you, Russ and Tina! 🙂 Wow! I am glad that the stand-off ended peacefully. Sorry that it took so long though. Maybe she figured her taxes include ferry passage? No? 😉 Thanks, too, for the link to the video. RVs don’t swim well, so one should always take the ferry instead. 😉 Safe travels! 🙂
