The ‘Fasta Pasta’ pasta cooker cooks pasta perfectly; minimal water and no propane use

By Nanci Dixon
This is my new favorite “As seen on TV” pasta cooker. It really is perfect for the RV. While flipping through the web while avoiding working one day (yes, writers for RVtravel.com avoid working too), I spotted the Fasta Pasta.

I generally avoid making pasta dishes like spaghetti in the RV unless it can be done in my Instant Pot. I don’t like to use so much of our propane boiling the water, nor add all the steam and humidity into such an enclosed space as our RV. Also, I don’t like using so much water, particularly when on electric-only hookups or pouring all that starchy water into our grey water holding tank.

“Fasta Pasta” might be my answer! I figured it had to be on Amazon, and, of course, it was, so I ordered it right away to try out. If it worked, great! If not, I had another storage container. As soon as it arrived, I tested it out. I am sold! No steam, no boiling, and the pasta was cooked perfectly.

The lid has a hole for measuring spaghetti-type pasta and the directions show measurement amounts for other types of pasta, too. I tried the “one serving” size.

I added water to the line on the container.

Then I set the microwave for 12 minutes, per the instruction sheet, and cooked it uncovered. I tested the pasta and added another minute to the cook time.

I replaced the lid and drained. (Nope, you don’t even need a colander.)

Done! The only thing I needed from the cupboard was a jar of pesto. I added the pesto and it really was perfect pasta!

No steam, no boiling and very little water use. I know that cooking in plastic containers in the microwave is controversial. Is the plastic leaching horrible things into the spaghetti? I don’t know, and after the first bite I decided I didn’t care. That is my disclaimer!

Thanks for the heads up. I’ll measure before I order it.

I don’t like to use plastic in my microwave. The heating action releases gases from the plastic that enters the food. If this has changed in the last few years I’d like to hear about it.

Hi, Gary. Out of curiosity I Googled this (whatever did we do before Google?🤔). Here’s a link to a quite thorough article about this topic from healthline.com: https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/can-you-microwave-plastic In that document it states: “Therefore, it’s generally a good idea to avoid microwaving plastic, unless — according to the FDA — the container is specifically labeled safe for microwave use.” One of the concerns regarding microwaving plastic is the release of BPA. The Fasta Pasta product is labeled as both Microwave Safe and BPA-free. I don’t have time to dig into it any further (unless you want to see typos in tomorrow’s newsletter😉), but it sounds pretty safe to me. Have a good night, Gary. 😀 –Diane at RVtravel.com

You’re very welcome, Cee and Gary. Like I mentioned, his comment made me curious. (If I ate pasta, I think I’d get one of those myself.👍) Have a great day! 😀 –Diane at Rvtravel.com

At home I cook pasta in a 12″ skillet with about an inch of water which is way less than a large pot would require. We do not really make pasta when out camping since most our cooking is done over the fire.

I bought one of these from Amazon and have used it about 5 times. I wish I would have found this a long time ago, it works great. I use only “angel hair pasta and the 12 minute time is perfect and I am alone so I don’t make a large amount either! I would recommend it!
