In a quiet, weekend announcement, FMCA (formerly Family Motor Coach Association) members were told the group is at present without someone at the corporate helm. FMCA’s CEO, Chris Smith, is no longer with the organization.
FMCA CEO—”Agreement to part ways”

FMCA members received word of the change in an email on July 14. The word came from FMCA’s National President, Gary Milner. The email told members that Smith wanted out of his contract. “He and FMCA have reached a mutual agreement to part ways,” Milner announced.
Trade news publisher RVBusiness asked Smith for a comment; he declined to give one.
Where does this leave the group? A Management Committee is now in place to look for Smith’s replacement. This is in line with FMCA’s bylaws, and with the approval of the group’s Executive Board.
Smith took over as FMCA’s executive director and CEO in October 2016. He’d been with the organization since August 2013 as director of administrative services/controller.
Reaction to Smith’s departure by FMCA members has been quiet. As of Wednesday morning, no one has posted comments on the FMCA forum. We couldn’t find any other chatter on the matter on other FMCA-related social media sites.
RVtravel.com reached out repeatedly to Smith for a comment but he did not respond.

Definitely going to need more info on this before I can form any kind of opinion. Going to the big FMCA gathering (🤞🤞) in mid August so maybe we’ll learn more then..
Scandalous! Keep asking why until you get answers, the company financial troubles will make sense.
Thank you, Russ and Tina! 🙂 I am a member of FMCA, but not at all active in the organization. I had no idea that he’d been CEO that long. I was just reading the May FMCA magazine and noticed his column. I wonder how this will go? I guess we’ll see, in time. Meanwhile, thanks again, have a great day, safe travels, and safe stays! 🙂
FMCA is really struggling financially and have some tough decisions to make. I suspect that Smith had a different vision to fix it that did not align with Board. This is just my speculation. While FMCA has been successful in growing its membership base, the cost of providing the benefits exceeds the annual dues. Something has to give.
We hope to learn more at the FMCA International Rally next month.
He got caught with his hand in the cookie jar and was asked to leave.
Wow! That is sad!
