Lucky dog? Pooch rescued after 60-foot fall

And they say cats always land on their feet. Dancer, a 3-year-old pooch, may really be the epitome of a lucky dog. Dancer and her pet parents were hiking on a cliff near Miner’s Castle at Pictured Rocks National Seashore in Michigan. Unfortunately, Dancer, described as a “professional troublemaker” got off her leash and fell right off a cliff.

SHARP team rescues lucky dog

Dancer’s distraught owners spent hours trying to find the contrary canine. One can only imagine how their hearts plummeted as they drew the conclusion that Dancer was truly done for. After their fruitless search, park rangers got a report about the missing mutt.

Park staff then contacted the Superior High Angle Rescue Professionals, whose acronym apparently fits—SHARP. A rope-rescue team, SHARP volunteers turned up at the Lake Superior location. Three SHARP volunteers did what rope-rescue folks do. They found a cold but alive and very much excited Dancer. The lucky dog escaped death and was rescued from a ledge 60’ below her takeoff point.

Russ and Tiña De Maris
Russ and Tiña went from childhood tent camping to RVing in the 1980s when the ground got too hard. They've been tutored in the ways of RVing (and RV repair) by a series of rigs, from truck campers, to a fifth-wheel, and several travel trailers. In addition to writing scores of articles on RVing topics, they've also taught college classes for folks new to RVing. They authored the book, RV Boondocking Basics.
