Can you believe it’s already the end of 2022? It feels like just yesterday we were ringing in the new year. And what a year it’s been!
If you had to rate your 2022, how would you rate it? Give it a 5 if it was a wonderful year for you. Give it a 3 if it was just an okay year. And go ahead and give it a 1 if it was a terrible year for you (we hope not!)
Feel free to leave a comment explaining your number rating. Tell us about your favorite part of the year.

This year was okay, but with prices sky high with fuel and food as well as other items, it was a year that I am glad it is over. Thank God for good health, friends and family, but living full time, this was by far, the toughest year that we have gone through. I have hopes that next year will be better and that people will really try and get along. That would make it a great year! Merry Christmas to you and your staff for a great newsletter and the time it takes to put one together!
Somewhat of a unusual year for us.
Wife retired on April 1st ! Ended up being a year of house maintenance, upgrades and Decluttering.
We ordered a Super C and in the process sold our older Class A. Essentially, we were out of owning a RV for about 5 months.
The Super C is a dream to drive and definitely built better. Minor issues but nothing major. 2017 Class A constantly had issues.
When we finally hit the road at the end of September, the weather in Michigan decided not to cooperate. Rainy and unusually cold.
Looking forward to a better travel season this coming year.
The year started out very good. Got the trailer out of storage, Brought it home to get packed for the three trips we had scheduled, toy hauler with motorcycle.. On the first trip in June, I started getting severe lower back pains. Don’t remember doing anything to cause this. Got to a point where I could barely walk more than a few hundred feet. Went to see an ortho and he discovered that my L5 and S1 vertebrae has slipped out of place and the disc had bulged. Second trip in July had to be cancelled. After a routine of steroids, pain meds and PT, It did start to feel better. Made our third trip in Sept. Pain was bearable, but the Bike had to stay home. Not a fun year.
Same happened to my husband. All of the sudden back went out. Can’t walk or stand comfortably. PT, chiropractor and meds haven’t worked. It’s called spinal stenosis and we’re hoping steroid shots will help or he’s looking at surgery. Good luck to you.
Finally both of us are retired. We were also finally able to secure a garage property adjacent to our cabin. And we completed a major deck and driveway project which included a wood fired hot tub. Post covid is feeling more normal. Democracy feels safer. And we’re snowbirding for the first time! We got out ahead of the Siberian Express. Let’s hope our luck continues.
A friend whom our family has camped with since 1978 has recently taken a downturn with his health. Presently he is in the hospital with pneumonia and his wife says he probably won’t be released for Christmas. In all likelihood, his days of camping are done and I for one, will miss him around the campfire..
I gave the year a 5. We both survived with our health intact. We’re still able to survive financially without having to go back to work. Only one family member passed. The rest are alive and kicking.
I don’t dwell on setbacks. Nor do I overly celebrate successes.
When I think things aren’t going well, I reevaluate my circumstances and realize many people have it worse than I. Thus the 5.
Good until the inflation. The slide. Cost in electric double, oil doubled, gas almost and investments headed the other way. Upside still alive and kicking yahoo!
The political situation in our country sucks with terrible leadership. Inflation is killing our economy and causing economic hardship for the middle class and lower income citizens.
That’s your opinion. I shudder to think what a second term for a certain individual would have done to us. And that’s my opinion……That and a couple bucks will get us a cup of coffee just about anywhere.
Spring camper checkout was zero degrees weather didn’t even check water systems till the last day. Opportunity rose short notice I’m April and we had to leave TT at home for other travel. COVID in June postponed July surgery. august had knee replacement. A fewshort jaunts without camper and overseas trip i December. A great year, but the camper got less than fifty miles on it for the year.
K.I.S. there is upside in 2023!!
Life is grand!
We were able to be Canadian Snowbirds for the first time, and now in Az. for our second winter. C’mon, what could be better than missing the miserable weather in the North right now?
National/world situations continue to spiral down. Just trying to prepare and survive. I don’t see an avenue for improvement anywhere in the near (20 yrs)future. Sorry.
I lost my father at the beginning of the year and my brother at the end. In between we had to move my mother into assisted living. That was bad enough but now I had the remainder of the 1800 square feet to the 300 square feet to try to disperse out of my garage. In the meantime my husband was in an accident in mid-October and we were unable to get the undriveable vehicle in until the first of the month. He cannot drive my car because the power driver’s seat is not working correctly. My mom has a couple of health issues that required many trips to doctors appointments as well has dental issues. THEN the dog tore her CCL (equivalent to human ACL). So, I am very happy to see 2022 go bye-bye!
It really depends on attitude, now doesn’t it? Many people can live thru tragedy, but proclaim life is good, because good is all they see. I believe life is about learning to achieve this attitude. You’ll live happier.
I had a Doctor treating me for a very debilitating back injury tell me ” There are no bad days, some just do not measure up to the better ones.” It is a good philosophy and will take a lot of the burn out of a very trying day. I have lived by that phrase for 45 yrs and it makes a big difference. Also good news.. I was able to start a new career as a truck driver for 33 yrs before retirement 12 yrs ago.Happy Trails.
Thanks for sharing Gordy, driving a truck is a hard living but so very essential. And thank you for that!
My lady friend is a truck driver and loves it so much she told me she wants to die driving a truck. But hopefully not while driving a truck. We talk and text and enjoy each others company while she drives and I am home doing not much of anything. Careers can be so rewarding.
I give it a 4 +, we are both fairly healthy and can get around without any problems, (as far as I can remember lol). Older brother and a life long friend passed away in 22.
It was a good year if you ignore the rest of the world. We spent wayyyyyy too much due to prices and unexpected expenses but we did things we never thought we would. Going back to Oct of ’21 we traveled coast to coast by May of ’22. My bucket list of Dodgers spring training (ALL of it!) and the wife’s list of the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta both happened! We saw amazing places, met great people, and both traveled and relaxed hard! Now we have the daunting task of planning next year’s travel while living within our shrunken budget. The economy needs to help us out so we can continue to see this huge wonderful country.
2022 was an okay year. As far as a camping year, I would have to give it a “5”, but due to my sister dying of leukemia, I would have given it a “0”. I compromised and gave 2022 a “3”.
I pray that our country can bounce back in 2023.
🙏🇺🇸🇺🇸
2022 .. It was an ok year for us.
I retired September 1, 2022 after 32 yrs in the fire service. It’s been a good year, I pray our economy can bounce back in 2023! Merry Christmas everyone and a blessed 2023.
I got married! She’s gainfully employed and loves the campervan I built. Here’s to 2023!
Congratulations, Les! We wish you and your new spouse a very Merry Christmas and a healthy and happy 2023, as well as many happy years of RVing in your special campervan. 😀 –Diane at RVtravel.com
I see my name and for a nano second confused as I was just reading this for the first time and couldn’t have commented😂. Merry Christmas, Diane.
Ha! Same thing happens to me! 😆 Merry Christmas to you and yours, and have a healthy and terrific 2023, other Diane McGovern. 😀 –Diane at RVtravel.com
Would have checked wonderful if my son DIL and our 3 granddaughters (8,11, 14) had not moved from 30 miles away and seeing them once a week to 1500 miles away. They are happy and we are happy for them for all the reasons they moved from CA to TX. Just sad they aren’t closer. Will see them on our way out to Fl and back, Jan and Mar.
It began as a great year until health issues bit me on the back side and the doctors dragging their feet to do the surgery that needs to be done to correct the problem.
My husband was diagnosed with multiple myeloma in December 2021 so 2022 started out as a bummer. Then his back began to hurt and it was diagnosed as spinal stenosis. He can’t walk far without support but he can lift so with many short breaks he was able to get the camper ready and then set up. It wasn’t easy, took 4 1/2 hours one time to pack up, but he loves camping and we were going to AZ come hell or high water. We’re here and missed the Blizzard of 2022.
Lost my father in January, welcomed our 9th grandchild in December. We are truly blessed!! Merry Christmas to all
I would rate our 2022 camping season “5”. We had a great season. We were out about six months. We had no problems in any area of camping. Looking forward to 2023. Already have reservations in Forest Service campgrounds.
Retired so usually great years. But gallbladder decided to part ways with me and had infection issues. Made it through finally and ready to head south soon.
Glad to hear you made it through, Denny. Yay! Wishing you a warm and wonderful Christmas, and a healthy(er!) and happy 2023. Safe travels! 😀 –Diane at RVtravel.com
Lost mine also in August, not in best shape. Should have come out 20yrs ago. Spent some extra time in hospital. Happy Trails
Glad to hear you have bounced back – have a great Holidays and be safe out there!
What an interesting survey and comments. All year we complained about price of gas, economy, politics, bad RV construction, long waits for parts, no parking spots, on and on and on…… Hardly any of this was mentioned in the comments as to whether or not it was a good or bad year.. Much appeared to be health set backs for selves or others. Were all of our complaints just those of inconvenience rather than real crisis? It appears that things were not really that bad. . Maybe we are fortunate. Maybe we are thankful and hopeful. Maybe there is a Christmas
2022 was, well, weird. 3/5 stars.
2022 was a good year overall. We got into the RV trips we planned with good weather 95% of the time and, no major issues with the trailer. Lots of good time with the grandkids between trips and, we’ve been pretty healthy all year. Hoping for much of the same in 2023.
Year started off great. But by summer I thought everything couldn’t be better until I moved to NC. Since then everything has gone downhill. Don’t expect 2023 to be much better. Fingers crossed. Been a weird year.
So sorry to hear that, jillie. I hope things improve for you and that you have a much better 2023. I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you, but it kinda interferes with my typing. Take care. Hugs. 😀 –Diane at RVtravel.com
I found out I had a 44 year old daughter I never knew about. I’ve been across country to visit her 3 times this year which was really great. But because the country is being run so poorly I voted just good.
I found my birth mother but found out she was killed in a hit and run in 2007. My paternal side is of one of two brothers, one died a few years ago and the other completely denies my existance. I am very happy you have a great relationship with your new found daughter. I wish I had that. Enjoy the visits.
Stayed in place due to Pandemic hazards, finished building a new winter “old age cabin”. Buy pandemic caused so many stay at home workers, at least half of appliances arrived defective AND no warranty service available in Northwest! We had to fix them ourselves or trade them around…… but we move ever onward and expect to travel again soon.
It was a fantastic year for us here in Arid-zona…We both woke up every day of the year and the grass was below us. Thankful for that and especially thankful for my family & friends. Salud to all my RVTravel compadres.
I would have given it a 6 if gas/diesel prices were where they should be but saw more of America and met many kindred spirits. But the best was seeing a family of cinnamon colored black bears in Grand Mesa on the last day of my stay and right as I was thinking how nice it would be if I saw one. Thanks God for providing a mom and 2 cubs – hope for the future and another reason to turn off all noise and go outside and play.
Any day you’re alive is a good day. Although there are times I think that being dead would be a good thing too, I could use the rest. Insert laughing emoji here.
Hi, Mitzi and Ed. That reminds me of when people complain about getting old and creaky, etc.: “Getting old sucks.” I remind them that it’s (usually) better than the alternative. I hope you have a very healthy and happy 2023. 😀 –Diane at RVtravel.com
